Leeds’ transfer policy is brilliant as it incorporates both short and long-term aspiratuons

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United have been linked with a vast number of signings already this summer.

But in terms of the players they are targeting, they are striking a great balance between aiming for short-term and long-term success.

Leeds are a team that need to perform well next season, but fortunately, they also aren’t neglecting the long-term future of the club.

Andrea Radrizzani has operated largely on a sell before you buy policy, and it has been speculated that that model may be followed again this summer.

But it’s more than just their financial future, Leeds aren’t only targeting players who will get them promoted next season, they are looking at potential stars who could carry the team forward down the line.

The Yorkshire club have been linked with players who have the potential to make a significant impact in their push for the top two this season. The likes of Harry Wilson and Helder Costa have proven themselves to be top players at Championship level with their goal contribution records, but the Whites have also been looking at young prospects such as Cody Drameh and Rafa Mujica.

As long as the Whites’ youth team is being headed up by Carlos Corberan these players have a great chance of progressing to become members of the first team. Last season we saw both Jack Clarke and Jamie Shackleton become critical components in Marcelo Bielsa’s squad as they made plenty of appearances in important games.

If the sell before you buy policy is to continue at Elland Road, then this may be the best way to go about it. Clarke is now being touted as a £20m player, and these youngsters that the Whites are looking at bringing in could also be sold for millions of pounds once they mature.

If Leeds can purchase and develop youngster at this rate it will allow for the bigger-name signings like Patrick Bamford and Kiko Casilla to come in, all while keeping their net spend as low as possible.

Angelino to Man City has all the makings of the Premier League’s smartest signing of the summer

[ad_pod ]

Angelino Tasende has had a fabulously convoluted career so far for a player who is yet to see twenty-three candles on his birthday cake.

Having been snapped up from Deportivo La Coruna’s youth ranks by Manchester City in 2014 the promising left-back was sent on an odyssey of loan spells in between returning back to England from time to time to make occasional Carabao Cup cameos from the bench.

A season-long stint at New York City FC proved to be relatively successful with four assists in 14 games but a subsequent switch to another City-affiliated club in Girona did not, the youngster who idolised Roberto Carlos growing up not making a single appearance. So it was off to Mallorca and then NAC Breda and it was in the dock-side city that the then-20 year old finally began to find his feet and impress. From left-back, he would chalk up three goals and seven assists.

He impressed so much that in June of last year PSV Eindhoven swooped, signing the Spanish Under 21 international on a five-year deal for a reported £5m to retain Angelino in the Eredivisie. Crucially for what follows Manchester City ceded, but only with the insistence of a buy-back clause inserted into the sale – something that’s now looking like an incredibly smart move.

There have always been concerns about Angelino’s defensive solidity as an incredibly forward-thinking full-back and those doubts remain but that aside it is no exaggeration to say that last term the player was a revelation as PSV challenged Ajax for the title right up until the final weekend.

At the summation of 2018/19 two Dutch newspapers – De Telegraaf and Algemeen Dagblad – ranked Angelino the third best performer across the league, putting him ahead of the likes of Frenkie De Jong.

A 77.5% pass success rate and an average of 2 key passes and 2.3 long balls per game reveal his consistent impact while most impressively of all a total of nine assists by the season’s end is a jaw-dropping figure.

By way of comparison Manchester City’s primary left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko made three assists – though admittedly having played significantly fewer games – in a side that scored 95 Premier League goals. To put it further into context, had Angelino replicated his creativity in England it would have placed him 8th on the Premier League’s overall list with just one fewer than Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling.

From 6-0 FA Cup final maulings to Mkhitaryan missing the the Europa League final, is football broken? Fans discuss in the video below…

Understandably then this form pricked the attention of his former employer and unsurprisingly it has led to City considering triggering the aforementioned clause as they seek to secure his services for a fraction of his true worth, just €6m (£5.4m). Indeed, Angelino’s true worth could range between anything from the €25m PSG have reportedly offered for him to the kind of fee Man City usually pay for their full-backs – Benjamin Mendy set them back £52m.

For City it is a transfer that makes a good deal of sense, a smart solution to a few problems; he counts as home-grown and that is invaluable while the fitness concerns of Benjamin Mendy – which have seen him miss 78 games over the last two seasons – means the procurement of a specialist left-back is a must.

Furthermore, City’s sustained interest in Juventus’ flying right-back Joao Cancelo suggests that the days of Pep Guardiola’s inverted full-backs may be at an end, with low blocks employed by most of their opponents necessitating new ways to navigate around them.

In this regard Angelino is the perfect recruit; a winger in all but name, a prodigal son, an absolute bargain. If he can perform to the levels expected, there will unlikely be many smarter, more value-for-money signings in the Premier League this summer.

Andy Cole takes to Instagram to pay tribute to Man Utd’s past success

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United is a club with a tremendous history.

As one of the most popular and most successful clubs on the planet, the Red Devils have won the Premier League 20 times, while also adding plenty of European and Domestic Cup silverware to their cabinet as well.

Andy Cole played a huge part in their historical success and is regarded as a legend at the club.

The 47-year-old ex-centre-forward played a total of 271 games for Manchester United, scoring 121 goals and assisting 13 in the process.

Cole recently took to

/BzNUCJdh3qQ/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram to pay tribute to one of the times he won the Premier League with the club.

During his stay at the club, Cole managed to lift the trophy five times, so he’s certainly familiar with the winning feeling.

The glory days that Cole was firmly a part of seem like a distant memory now. These are dark times for the legendary club and they haven’t managed to lift the Premier League trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson retired at the end of the 2012/13 season.

Maybe Cole’s snap was a slight dig at that, too, and a wake-up call for the club’s hierarchy.

Liverpool target Alex McCarthy edges closer to exit after being put up for sale

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

As reported by Sky Sports, Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has been put up for sale by the South Coast side along with another stopper in their ranks, Fraser Forster.

What’s the word, then?

Well, Liverpool had previously been linked with a move for the England international as they seek a replacement for Simon Mignolet, who is expected to leave this summer.

The Belgium international has lost his place to Brazil No.1 Alisson Becker, and made just one appearance last term as Liverpool went on to win the Champions League.

“It reminds me of a bus seat!” – Watch a damning verdict on Chelsea’s new kit in the video below…

The Reds have slapped a £15m price tag on their No.2 glovesman, who they signed from Sunderland for £9m back in 2013.

29-year-old McCarthy has already said that he would be open to a move to Anfield having lost his No.1 shirt at St Mary’s to Angus Gunn.

Liverpool’s life made easier if Mignolet price tag is met

Crystal Palace and Brighton have expressed an interest in signing Mignolet, and if his £15m price tag is met this summer, that could potentially force Liverpool into the market for another goalkeeper.

If that does end up happening, then the Merseysiders’ life has been made immeasurably easier by Southampton publicly putting McCarthy up for sale this summer.

The player himself is open to the move, Southampton now don’t have a leg to stand on in the market having deemed him surplus to requirements, and as a result, the deal should be a simple one to complete for someone who has been on Liverpool’s radar since the Brendan Rodgers days.

The Liverpool Echo have stated that McCarthy isn’t on Liverpool’s wishlist however, but one would assume that could change if Mignolet leaves given the fresh news on the former Crystal Palace man not being needed by Ralph Hasenhuttl anymore.

It all seems to be falling into place for Liverpool if they need to find a Mignolet replacement.

Rangers’ Jordan Jones now has a big chance with club having to wait on Ryan Kent

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Rangers will be left waiting on a potential loan move for Ryan Kent, with the winger set to join Liverpool on their tour of the USA, as reported by The Mirror.

What’s the story?

It had been reported earlier by The Daily Record that Rangers could land Kent as early as next week, with the 22-year-old not yet a confirmed participant of the trip across the Atlantic.

However, The Mirror say that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is now keen to utilise the player in pre-season, blocking attempts from Leeds United and Rangers to land him on loan, with plans to play him against Bradford on Sunday and then take him abroad.

It means that the Gers will be left waiting on whether any loan move for the player will go through.

Other outlets, like STV, have reported the Ibrox club will have the first option on Kent if Liverpool do decide to let him leave on loan later in the summer.

You won’t believe which of Liverpool’s Champions League winning side of 2005 is still playing in the video below…

A chance for others

It’s not as if Rangers are struggling for options on the flanks right now, and a delay in Kent’s potential return means that others at Ibrox should get opportunities to impress manager Steven Gerrard.

Jordan Jones was the first to be utilised on the left wing against St Joseph’s on Tuesday night, gaining praise for the performance on his debut.

He appears to be the Ibrox boss’ go-to option on that flank for now and if he can chip in with goals and assists, complementing his direct pace and dribbling, then he could make the position his own while Kent’s future is still up in the air.

A Kent arrival next week, reported to have been possible, would have surely halted Jones’ progress in the first-team and severely limited his chances to off-the-bench appearances.

The 24-year-old doesn’t have a fantastic track record of direct goal contributions, managing just four goals and four assists at Kilmarnock last season, but he will now have the platform to prove he can do the job at Rangers.

Manchester City man Riyad Mahrez posts on Instagram following AFCON victory

[ad_pod ]

Yesterday was an incredible day for Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez and his national side.

Algeria managed to sink Nigeria deep in stoppage time as the mercurial star netted an incredible free-kick in the dying moments of the game. The referee’s final whistle shortly followed the emphatic strike, sending both the players and the fans into a frenzy.

With that goal, Algeria booked their ticket to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations and they will now face Senegal for the trophy.

Mahrez immediately took to

/Bz6alj9j8oJ/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram to celebrate this incredible achievement and, of course, it soon attracted a lot of attention from the footballing world.

His club teammates were among the first ones to post a reply in the comment sections.

Both Raheem Sterling and Benjamin Mendy posted a series of emojis to show their support for their exceptionally talented teammate.

It seems Pep Guardiola will have to wait a bit longer before Mahrez reports back to pre-season training.

And if everything goes as planned, he just might return as a champion of Africa.

West Ham fans are keen for Victor Wanyama to arrive this summer

[ad_pod ]

According to club insider ExWHUemployee, West Ham United are considering a move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama in this summer’s transfer window.

Sassuolo have reportedly made an £8.1m bid for Pedro Obiang, which could see the Hammers go into the market for a replacement.

According to ExWHUemployee – speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, via Hammers.News – Wanyama could be targeted if Obiang departs.

The 28-year-old has been with Spurs since 2016 – making 93 appearances for the capital outfit in all competitions.

Injuries and a loss of form meant that the midfielder made just 13 Premier League appearances last term, however, and his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has less than two years to run.

Check out some amazing tekkers in the video below…

The West Ham fans have been on social media discussing a potential swoop and a number are keen for their team to complete a deal ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

Playmaker: Why Newcastle United should re-sign Andy Carroll

With Andy Carroll now off the books at West Ham after seven seasons in the English capital, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before the 30-year-old striker was linked with a return to Newcastle United.

[ad_pod ]

And sure enough, it’s happened as the Telegraph report that the Toon are interested in bringing their former striker back on a free following the club-record signing of Hoffenheim striker Joelinton for a reported £40 million according to BBC Sport, with the report claiming that Newcastle are in touch with Carroll’s camp and are keeping an eye on the attacker as he recovers from ankle surgery.

Indeed, the Chronicle backed that up recently and suggested the former Liverpool man was keen on a return.

The development, though, has divided the Newcastle fan base, and fan channel The Magpies Channel has thrown their hat into the ring on the debate in the video below, giving his three reasons why the club should, in fact, sign Carroll this summer.

With Salomon Rondon gone to China along with Rafa Benitez as well as Ayoze Perez making the move to Premier League rivals Leicester City, Newcastle are in need of strikers this summer on top of the signing of Joelinton, and for a free transfer, Carroll could be an ideal addition for the team that will not only add numbers in a deprived position but could also provide a positive boost to the fan base given his previous connection with the club.

Newcastle fans, would you take Carroll this summer? Let us know!

West Brom fans do not want Scott Hogan to arrive before transfer deadline

[ad_pod ]

West Bromwich Albion supporters are against their team moving for Aston Villa forward Scott Hogan before this summer’s transfer window slams shut.

According to Football Insider, West Brom are keen to land the Republic of Ireland international ahead of Wednesday’s deadline.

However, the club’s fans are simply not interested in a swoop for the 27-year-old.

The report also claims that Stoke City and Bristol City are keen to land the attacker.

And it seems that the West Brom supporters would be pleased if either of those two clubs signed Hogan at their expense.

The former Rochdale youngster ended the 2018/19 campaign on loan at Sheffield United having struggled for action at Villa in the first half of the season.

Football Insider claim that Villa would be prepared to sell Hogan if another striker arrives before the transfer deadline but it remains to be seen if that is the case.

West Ham fans react to Sebastian Haller’s Premier League debut

[ad_pod ]

After getting a glimpse of their new big-money striker in pre-season, West Ham fans saw Sebastien Haller get his first taste of Premier League football against reigning champions Manchester City.

The Frenchman arrived from German side Eintracht Frankfurt in a club-record deal of £45m earlier this summer, and showed the Hammers faithful an early sign of what he has to offer.

Leading the line on his top-flight debut, Haller was one of the bright sparks of what otherwise was a rather forgettable afternoon for West Ham.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side slumped to a disappointing 5-0 defeat at home, but Haller’s hold-up play and touch certainly represented a silver lining.

Indeed, after seeing their record signing deliver a fine early impression, Irons fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the forward.

Many hailed his close control and ability to hold up the ball for his teammates, and praised his work ethic during the game.

Despite conceding much of the possession to the visitors, West Ham supporters praised Haller’s defensive contributions in the match and felt there is a lot more to come.
