Na próxima rodada, o CSA visita a Ponte Preta, no Moisés Lucarelli, dia 21 de agosto. O Operário-PR enfrenta o Paraná, no Durival Britto, dia 23 de agosto.

A partida

O gramado encharcado atrapalhou as ações das duas equipes e o comprometeu demais o nível técnico do jogo na primeira etapa.

Como o jogo de toque de bola estava prejudicado, Operário-PR e CSA começaram a apelar para os cruzamentos como alternativa para levar perigo à meta adversária. Porém, ambas os times não obtiveram êxito levantando a bola na área.

Foi necessária uma jogada individual para que o primeiro tempo não acabasse sem chances de perigo. Thomaz, do Fantasma, driblou o marcador, invadiu a área e bateu rasteiro. O Goleiro Cajuru, do Azulão, fez uma ótima defesa.

Lembra que na etapa inicial a bola área não trouxe resultado efetivo para ninguém, pois no segundo tempo foi diferente. Sávio levantou a bola área após cobrança de falta, a zaga do CSA bobeou, e Shumacher de letra aproveitou para marcar: 1 a 0 para o Operário-PR.

O Fantasma não se contentou com o primeiro gol. Foi para cima e logo achou o segundo, também na base da bola área. Após cobrança de escanteio, Mazinho foi mais esperto que todo mundo e desviou para ampliar a vantagem: 2 a 0.

O Azulão foi para cima atrás de diminuir o prejuízo e por pouco não conseguiu. Igor Fernandes e Yago carimbaram o travessão do goleiro Rodrigo Viana.

Quando todo mundo pensou que o gol do CSA sairia a qualquer momento, o Operário-PR foi lá e matou o jogo. O lateral Norberto e o goleiro Cajuru se atrapalharam, a bola sobrou para Lucas Batatinha que aproveitou e fechou a conta: 3 a 0 para o Fantasma.

Could Aston Villa sign Dani Ceballos?

According to Spanish news outlet Sport, Emery is ‘preparing’ an offer to reunite with the Spaniard as he looks to bring him to Villa before their European adventure begins.

A fee of around €15m (£13m) will be offered to Real Madrid and given that the La Liga giants have signed Jude Bellingham this summer, they could be tempted to move Ceballos on.

This is despite the fact the midfielder only recently signed a new contract until 2027 and given that he featured under Emery during his spell at Arsenal, it could be a smart move.

Could Dani Ceballos improve Aston Villa?

The 27-year-old has won two Champions League crowns, a La Liga title and an FA Cup during his career, along with a plethora of other trophies and there is no doubt he could add a winning mentality to the Villa squad should he make the move to the Premier League.

Having played a total of 120 matches for Madrid, he is no stranger to performing at the highest level, while his stint at Arsenal has given him plenty of experience of the English top flight, which would stand him in good stead.

Ceballos has been lauded as “superb” by journalist Lucas Navarrete, and he is also statistically similar to Chelsea starlet Enzo Fernandez, suggesting he could be a wonderful signing for Villa.

According to FBref, the Argentinian World Cup winner is the second-most similar player to Ceballos and given his recent meteoric rise and big money transfer to the Blues following his heroics in Qatar last year, it isn’t a bad comparison to have.

Indeed, the duo have registered similar statistics with regard to shots per 90 (1.04 to 1.51), pass completion percentage (90.6% to 87%) and successful take-on percentage (60.6% to 54%).

WhoScored suggests that both Ceballos and Fernandez excel at passing and have extremely high levels of concentration meaning they can circulate the ball well during matches and won’t let standards slip.

They both also like to shoot from distance and judging by their statistics, they always look to get their names on the scoresheet.

Emery could do worse than making a move for his former player in the dying embers of the transfer window, especially with Ceballos’ experience in the Champions League.

The Spanish dynamo could be a wonderful signing, and it reflects just how much of an extraordinary job the former Villarreal manager has done since taken charge in October 2022.

With three impressive signings so far, the 27-year-old could make it four should he swap sunny Madrid for the drab Midlands.

Arsenal fans rejoiced when the signing of Jurrien Timber was confirmed last month.

Gone, so they thought, were the days of a certain Rob Holding and his errant defending.

No one can fault the English centre-half's professionalism and commitment but his displays in the back end of last season arguably cost Mikel Arteta's men the title.

William Saliba was ruled out with a back injury in what turned out to be pivotal moment in the chase for the Premier League.

Timber, therefore, was meant to solve that problem, but sadly the Dutchman has been ruled out for an extended period.

When will Jurrien Timber return from injury?

Timber went down with an injury problem in the first half of Arsenal's opening weekend victory against Nottingham Forest.

It was perhaps a surprise to see him step out for the second period but down he went again shortly after the break before being substituted.

The severity of his injury was far worse than anyone could have imagined. The 22-year-old suffered an ACL problem and as a result, could miss the next seven to nine months in line with the traditional recovery time for such an injury.

Who could replace Jurrien Timber at Arsenal?

Fortunately for the Gunners, the transfer window is still open should they wish to replace their impressive young talent.

Full-backs such as Joao Cancelo, Benjamin Pavard and Kyle Walker-Peters have all been linked in recent days, although if Edu and co fancy saving themselves a pretty penny, they could turn to Hale End once more.

As this Arsenal team have become more and more successful, the chances for academy graduates on which this team were built have become slimmer.

Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe were the pillars of this team as Arteta sunk his teeth into management for the first time but those opportunities simply aren't there anymore.

Such an eventuality has led to Folarin Balogun's impending exit and Charlie Patino's second straight loan.

However, the door is now ajar in defence for a young prospect to make a name for themselves.

The most likely candidate in that regard is Reuell Walters.

Who is Reuell Walters?

An 18-year-old centre-back, the teenager really made a name for himself during Arsenal's run to the FA Youth Cup final last season.

Jack Wilshere's men enjoyed a fairytale run to the showpiece event at the Emirates, only to be dispatched 5-1 by West Ham.

Walters, however, stood out despite such a scoreline. He strode out of defence confidently and with great purpose, carrying the ball long distances or pinging balls into space for wingers and wing-backs to run onto.

Such a playstyle is in line with the way the aforementioned Saliba and Gabriel play. Indeed, both defenders like to stride forward before playing a measured long pass to feet.

Of course, the teenager might not be at that standard yet, but Wilshere certainly expects him to have a strong future in the game, reportedly holding the opinion that he could well become just as good as Saliba.

With Timber being signed and competition for places in a full-back position being fierce, any opportunity for Walters to play looked farfetched. After all, he wasn't even among the travelling party to the USA for the club's pre-season tour.

Yet, having appearing for the club during pre-season ahead of the 2022/23 campaign and been in plenty of matchday squads last term, Arteta clearly rates him. Boasting a success rate of 83% chipped passes per game in the EFL Trophy to Holding's 50%, it's clear to see why.

This is a player who is bold with his passing and more often than not, the risk pays off. Holding is anything but a clever gamble. Playing him would be a mistake.

Throwing Walters in as a regular starter in the Premier League is unlikely but the "outstanding prospect" – as dubbed by journalist Layth Yousif – deserves an opportunity to prove he could play second fiddle to Arsenal's defensive protagonists.

BioMohammed Siraj’s rise over the last year has been as fascinating as it has been swift. The son of an autorickshaw driver in Hyderabad, Siraj got hooked to the game while in class seven after he was part of the team that won an inter-school tournament. From then on, he would frequently skip classes to play tennis-ball cricket. His pace and an ability to take wickets in clumps meant he acquired a cult status in his mohalla in the Banjara Hills locality.It wasn’t until 2015 that Siraj took to playing with the cricket ball, upon a friend’s insistence. He took took a slew of five-fors in his first few club matches and soon found himself in Hyderabad’s Under-23 side, and then in the senior team. While he played only one game in his first season in the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy, he grabbed eyeballs the very next year with 41 wickets at an average of 18.92 as Hyderabad made the quarter-finals. He was subsequently picked in the Irani Trophy to play for the Rest of India.Earlier this year, aged only 22, Siraj made the jump to the big leagues when Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired him for a whopping INR 2.6 crore. During the 2016-17 domestic season, Siraj admitted to being taken in by the lavish lifestyle – the air travel and five-star accommodation – a professional cricketer’s life offered. Midway through the IPL, Siraj was doing promotional events and obliging requests for selfies, even if somewhat awkwardly. Such initiation is certain to come in handy once he links up with the Indian side for the T20Is against New Zealand.StrengthsSturdy and athletic, Siraj has a deceptive run-up, which initially suggests that a left-arm bowler is steaming in. He is, however, a right-armer and by his own admission is a natural at getting the ball to swing into the right-hander. It was only since 2016 that he started expanding his repertoire. He has always been able to bowl a pretty quick bouncer though, something that had impressed his captain David Warner and team mentor VVS Laxman in the Sunrisers set-up.FormSiraj picked up 10 wickets from six games in the IPL, including a four-for against Gujarat Lions. He took that form into the India A tour of South Africa, where he took a match haul of 5 for 103 in the only unofficial Test he played. He also claimed five wickets from three limited-overs matches against South Africa A and Afghanistan A. Siraj took 2 for 74 in the only Duleep Trophy game he played last month, and in the first unofficial Test against New Zealand A, he bowled the obstinate Jeet Raval for 34 and broke Will Young’s stumps for a duck as well. He also finished with two wickets in the two List A matches against New Zealand A.

O Atlético-MG suportou meia hora de pressão do São Paulo e, com ótima atuação a partir daí, construiu uma contundente vitória por 3 a 0 no Mineirão, com dois gols de Alan Franco e um de Jair. O Galo está em terceiro lugar com 12 pontos, um a menos que o Tricolor, que é o vice-líder, mas tem um jogo a mais. A ponta é do Inter, que tem 16 pontos e também um jogo a mais que os mineiros.

Só que a história da partida provavelmente teria sido outra se Jean Pierre Gonçalves Lima não tivesse anulado o gol que Luciano marcou aos 30 minutos do primeiro tempo, que faria justiça à atuação dominante do São Paulo. Com o auxílio da tecnologia, Rafael Traci, o árbitro de vídeo, viu um impedimento que talvez só ele tenha conseguido ver.

Rafael Traci chamou a atenção de Jean Pierre outras duas vezes. Primeiro para analisar se Diego Costa, zagueiro do São Paulo, fez pênalti ao supostamente cortar uma finalização com o braço no fim do primeiro tempo. A conclusão foi de jogada normal. Depois, por entender que o mesmo Diego deveria receber cartão vermelho por fazer falta em lance que terminaria com Marquinhos na cara de Tiago Volpi já na etapa final. O árbitro de campo discordou.

Praticamente só o Tricolor jogava até o gol anulado. Foram ao menos três oportunidades claras de gol, incluindo finalizações na trave de Luciano e Paulinho Boia, sem contar as outras vezes em que a equipe conseguiu entrar perigosamente na área.

Tudo mudou depois da intervenção do VAR. Alan Franco abriu o placar aos 34 minutos, após erro de Tchê Tchê no meio de campo e ótimo passe de Jair. O segundo dele saiu aos 43, após uma bola longa que resultou em ajeitada sutil de Hyoran para o equatoriano fuzilar.

Na parte ofensiva, o destaque fica por conta do aproveitamento. Das nove finalizações que o Santos deu na partida, quatro foram em direção ao gol. Pelo menos duas delas fizeram o goleiro Fernando Prass realizar boas defesas.

Porém, com o gol marcado, o Santos deu uma recuada, o que pode ser prejudicial em partidas contra equipes com elenco melhor.
