Crystal Palace have turned to a new name in their hunt for defensive reinforcements should Marc Guehi leave this summer, it has been claimed.

Crystal Palace and Oliver Glasner head into the final 11 days of the transfer window unsure whether either of their first choice defenders will be at the club by the time the window slams shut.

Both Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen started the Premier League opener against Brentford, in which Eberechi Eze had a goal controversially ruled out as the Eagles fell to a 2-1 defeat courtesy of a late goal from Yoane Wissa.

But both are the subject of Premier League interest. Andersen has been targeted by former side Fulham, with Marco Silva's side tabling a £20m offer to sign him already this summer, though that was rejected and Palace are understood to value him at closer to £40m.

Perhaps more concerning is Newcastle's protracted interest in left centre-back Marc Guehi, who starred at EURO 2024 and has been the subject of four bids by the Magpies. Last week, Palace chairman Steve Parish suggested no-one had matched the club's valuation of the defender, but more recently admitted that Guehi could leave if the right offer came in.

"I said it in the week, Marc is a great player and we are a club that have to accept where we are right now. We are not a destination, we are somewhere you travel through and if we get the right bids for players, in the right order, then we need to look at them. We haven't got that at the moment. If we get that then things will change, but right now Marc is a Palace player."

Should he depart, Palace will need late reinforcements, and now a new name has surfaced to replace the England international.

Palace looking to raid London rivals

That comes as TEAMtalk claim that Palace have made contact with London rivals Arsenal over a potential move to bring defender Jakub Kiwior to Selhurst Park in the final days of the transfer window.

Kiwior was left out of the matchday squad for Arsenal's opening day clash with Wolves, and the arrival of Riccardo Calafiori has left him surplus to requirements in north London.

And Palace have "made contact with Arsenal to enquire about Kiwior’s availability", the report claims, while "Oliver Glasner’s side could consider a move for Kiwior" instead of other targets.

Though not one of the first names on Mikel Arteta's teamsheet, Kiwior made 30 appearances for the Gunners last year, grabbing a goal and three assists in the process and acually managing to make more tackles per 90 than Guehi across the campaign.

Goleiros trabalham
O começo do jogo no Baenão se mostrou promissor. Logo nos movimentos iniciais, o Londrina teve a chance abrir o placar em uma saída errada do goleiro Thiago Coelho. Entretanto, Roberto invadiu a área, mas parou no arqueiro, que se redimiu.

Depois da chegada inicial, os visitantes passaram a se defender muito mais do que atacar. Em casa, o Remo passou a se impor e levou perigo ao gol de César. O goleiro do Londrina interveio bem em chutes de Lucas Tocantins e Matheus Oliveira, além de só observar os disparos de longe de Lucas Siqueira.

Vacilou, levou!
​A partida continuou com muita intensidade na metade da primeira etapa. O Londrina chegou mais duas vezes. Roberto bateu colocado, e a bola passou raspando a trave. Em seguida, Luiz Henrique ganhou da defesa no escanteio, obrigando Thiago Coelho a espalmar.

Em resposta, o Remo também passou perto do gol duas vezes. Gedoz cruzou rasteiro, mas Matheus Oliveira furou na primeira trave. Pouco depois, Thiago Ennes entrou na área, mas César fechou bem o ângulo. Aos 28 minutos o placar finalmente foi aberto. Romércio dominou mal na defesa, e Zeca roubou a bola. Com categoria, o atacante bateu colocado, de fora da área, abrindo o placar para o Londrina no Baenão.

Pressão remista
​Depois do gol, o Londrina se fechou no seu campo e passou a optar ainda mais pelos contra-ataques, o que acabou não acontecendo devido às poucas oportunidades reais. Enquanto isso, o Remo se fez muito presente no campo de ataque.

Apesar de toda a pressão, a equipe da casa não conseguiu obrigar César a fazer grandes defesas. O ímpeto remista parou na defesa adversária e nas várias reclamações de pênaltis, sendo que todas elas resultaram no árbitro mandando o jogo seguir, levando o 1 a 0 a favor do Londrina para o intervalo.

Voltou como terminou
​Os primeiros movimentos da segunda etapa mostraram exatamente o que foi o final da primeira: um Remo mais interessado. Entretanto, a finalização continuou sendo o principal problema dos paraenses. Matheus Oliveira cruzou na área, e a bola passou por todo mundo, com Romércio quase chegando nela. Três minutos depois, Lucas Tocantins saiu cara a cara com César, mas o goleiro fechou bem o ângulo.

Por outro lado, o Londrina continuou fechado no seu campo defensivo, o que fez com que Zeca recebesse poucas oportunidades na frente. Na única que teve, o atacante fez de tudo para finalizar, mas Thiago Coelho defendeu sem maiores problemas.

Não deu!
​O Remo ganhou ânimo com as substituições promovidas da metade para frente da etapa final, principalmente com Victor Andrade. Por duas vezes, o atacante levou perigo a César, que interveio bem em um chute quente e só observou outra finalização do atacante passar perto da trave.

Ainda discreto e pouco ofensivo, o Londrina tentou manter a posse de bola o máximo de tempo possível para fazer o relógio andar. Na sua melhor oportunidade, o Tubarão levou perigo com Victor Daniel, que chutou e viu a bola ainda bater em Mossoró antes de passar com perigo ao lado do gol. César ainda fez milagre em chute de Neto Pessoa nos acréscimos para garantir a vitória dos paranaenses, no Baenão.

This could open the door for Corberan to experiment with his starting line-up, therefore, with the potential for the former Huddersfield Town manager to even gift new summer recruit Ousmane Diakite his first start in West Brom blue and white, after a promising late cameo against the Potters.

Why Diakite could start against Swansea

The former TSV Hartberg man stood out, despite only being present on the pitch for four minutes against Stoke, with a grit present in his game that was necessary to ensure a narrow win was secured as the clock ticked down.

Failing to also misplace a single pass from just ten touches of the ball, the Malian midfielder might well find he's gifted a surprise start against the visitors from Wales today, over his lacklustre teammate.

Bettering the amount of duels Molumby won with four next to his name too, Diakite helped West Brom to see out the final few minutes with less anxiety present, having made a crunching tackle right at the death to stop a potential Potters breakaway breaching the Baggies at the back.

Labelled as a '"talented" player when first signing for the club back in June on a free transfer by Corberan, the 24-year-old's moment in the first team spotlight could come versus Swansea, even with Uros Racic potentially pushing for some minutes, after sitting out the Stoke win owing to work permit issues.

If West Brom are to start Diakite from the get-go in a surprise personnel switch, it would be a real test to see if the depth is strong enough at the Championship side to mount a serious promotion charge, as the West Midlands outfit eye up another early season three points.

"At the start of the window, we knew there were going to be opportunities, we knew there were going to be quite a few incomings, quite a few changes. We probably did not envisage quite as much," Brighton chief Tony Bloom explained.
