An “exciting” Rangers talent is now expected to return from his injury doubt for his side’s Europa League clash with Lyon at Ibrox, according to manager Philippe Clement.

Rangers face another key week

The Gers picked up three important points in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon, winning 1-0 at home to Hibernian to close the gap on Celtic back to five points again. It was far from convincing, however, with Jack Butland saving a first-half penalty and the performance far from the most dominant.

For that reason, there is still an element of pressure on Clement, whose job has been under scrutiny in recent weeks, following some hit-and-miss performances in all competitions, not least when Rangers got knocked out of the Champions League at the expense of Dynamo Kiev.

Up next for the Gers is a Europa League meeting with Ligue 1 side Lyon on Thursday night, having picked up an impressive 2-0 victory away to Malmo last week.

It represents a good chance for Rangers to pick up some momentum and improve upon Sunday’s display against Hibs, prior to Sunday evening’s visit of St Johnstone in the league. There are fitness issues for the Scottish giants to deal with, however, and now a new update has emerged regarding one player’s potential involvement.

Speaking RangersTV [via Rangers News], Clement admitted that Mohamed Diomande is an injury doubt for Rangers’ clash with Lyon this week, but he expects to call on him: “Diomande got a knock on Thursday. So he was not available for today. I hope to have him back on Thursday but we will see. Probably yes, with no guarantees.”

Not having Diomande would be a big blow, with the 22-year-old impressing this season after making a permanent switch to Ibrox during the summer transfer window. He has averaged 1.6 tackles per game across five SPL appearances, as well as bagging one assist, while Barry Ferguson has spoken of his happiness at the £4.5m deal to sign the youngster permanently.

“The signing of Diomande looks particularly shrewd and not just because of the way the numbers were structured. They’ve landed an exciting talent on loan without having to stump up a significant fee until the summer.”

The fact that Rangers failed to hit top gear against Hibs without Diomande in the team arguably highlights his importance to Clement, so having him back available for Lyon would feel like a massive shot in the arm. On the flip side, the Gers’ midfield would be lacking his quality both on and off the ball against challenging opponents if he is ruled out, so supporters will be keeping their fingers crossed.

وعلى صعيد التدريبات، خاض اللاعبون فقرة تأهيلية خاصة ضمن المران الذي أُقيم عصر اليوم، حيث قام الجهاز الفني بتخفيف الحمل البدني تدريجياً، تماشياً مع قرب موعد المباراة.

وشملت التدريبات التأهيلية تمارين متنوعة باستخدام الأدوات المخصصة لذلك، إلى جانب فقرة بالكرة لرفع الجاهزية البدنية والفنية للفريق.

وخصص الجهاز الفني فقرة تدريبات خططية خاصة للاعبين، تم خلالها التركيز على بعض الجمل والأفكار الفنية الخاصة بخطة اللعب، وحرص بيسيرو ومعاونوه على توجيه اللاعبين خلالها وتصحيح الأخطاء. 

وخاض لاعبو الفريق تقسيمة فنية بطول الملعب تم خلالها تطبيق كل الأفكار الخططية التي تم التدريب عليها.

وكان الزمالك قد تعادل أمام الأهلي في المباراة الماضية بهدف لكل فريق، ليرتفع رصيده إلى 28 نقطة محتلًا المركز الثالث في جدول ترتيب الدوري المصري.

“As a batting group, we failed in this game in the first innings,” Kohli said. “Second innings we did a better job. As a bowling group also, we accept we are not consistent enough. That’s it. I know what happens when we lose one game. I have said this in the past so many times that we are not going to fall into this trap where we start picking on issues or one or two things to talk about. And so Arsenal march on. Seven games into the new Premier League season and the Gunners remain unbeaten, having gone into the latest international break just a point behind Liverpool at the summit and level with champions, Manchester City.

Even without talismanic skipper Martin Odegaard, the north London side have continued to pick up positive results in recent weeks, having also powered to a convincing 2-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

It’s not been plain-sailing – not least due to red cards for the likes of Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard – but the Emirates outfit have scrapped and fought to maintain this string of positive results, proving to their title rivals that they are here to stay at the top of the table.

The bedrock of Mikel Arteta’s success remains that of Europe’s “best central defensive pairing” – as hailed by ex-England defender Matthew Upson – in the form of William Saliba and Gabriel, while Hale End hero Bukayo Saka continues to terrorise with seven assists in as many league games.

It would be foolish, however, to overlook the impact of another of Arteta’s “main players” – as the Spaniard has himself described him – with former Chelsea man Kai Havertz having quietly emerged as a vital figure for the club in 2024.

Havertz's start to the season

The midfield experiment has been abandoned, and Havertz is looking all the better for it.

Plucked from Stamford Bridge for a hefty £65m fee in the summer of 2023, it’s fair to say that the German’s early months in an Arsenal shirt with rather uninspiring, as he chipped in with just four goals and one assist in the league before Christmas.

In truth, it wasn’t until late February and early March of this year that the silky striker truly began to find his feet after shifting to a number nine berth, having scored in four successive league games. He hasn’t looked back since.

After ending last term with 13 league goals to his name, the former Champions League winner has continued that red-hot form into the new campaign, registering six goals in just ten outings in all competitions.

While once looking like a player who couldn’t find a home on the pitch, the 25-year-old is now a centre-forward in every sense, shown no more so than his brave header in the win over PSG.

As that effort indicated, Havertz is now a “real threat around the box” – as per his manager – with the hope being that he can now be supplied with regular, quality service, even in the absence of Odegaard.

That could then call for Arteta to make a bold tactical tweak in the coming weeks, with there perhaps an argument for the aforementioned Saka to take on a new role moving forward.

How Havertz could be made even better

On the early evidence, the records could tumble this season, with Saka already likely to have an eye on Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne’s all-time tally of 20 assists in a Premier League campaign.

Not just a goalscorer, the Englishman is marking himself out as a more than capable creator too, thus raising the question as to whether his strengths could be better utilised in a number ten berth, rather than on the flanks.

That is the verdict of data analyst Ben Mattinson, at least, who has suggested that the 23-year-old’s “output would skyrocket” if he was to make that switch to a central role, as it would prove “much harder for teams to double up on him and give him no space too”.

A possible “game-changer” of an alteration – in the view of Mattinson – this different role could then help to make Havertz even more effective in and around the box, as he would be able to link up more directly with Saka through the middle.

Saka’s ability to thread a pass and tee up Arsenal’s main marksman has already been showcased this season as he has remarkably created 12 ‘big chances’ to date, while averaging 3.9 key passes per game. To put that into perspective, the most ‘big chances’ created by a player in the division in the whole of 2023/24 was Mohamed Salah, with 22.

There may be those questioning why then should the academy graduate be relocated if he is already thriving on the right flank, but allowing him to operate in even closer proximity to Havertz could prove a masterstroke for both parties.

On current form, the latter man is proving that he can provide that clinical touch in front of goal. If supplied with regular service by Saka in a new number ten berth, who knows the goal tally he could end up with come May.

-Em relação ao Diego, era mais fácil (conhecer). Ele tem uma carreira mais que brilhante, é um exemplo. Paulo Grilo também explicou que, desde o início da carreira, por ver a reação à curta distância ser aprimorada, é adepto de técnicas utilizadas nohandebol e futsal em seu dia a dia de trabalho, como pôde ser visto num vídeo no qual, em um dos exercícios específicos, foi registrado com uma reação inusitada ao motivar os goleiros e viralizou.

– Há milhares de exercícios, nós vamos construímos a maneira que achamos melhor, respeitando sempre os dos outros. O vídeo que bombom é um dos exemplos, em que começo a utilizar a técnica do handebol e futsal. Diego e o Hugo ficaram encantados e super felizes, e isso mostra que se está no caminho certo – comentou.

Além de Diego Alves e Hugo Souza, Grilo tem treinado goleiros da base de forma alternada, comoMatheus Cunha e Kauã Santtos. Gabriel Batista, que era opção na temporada 2021, pediu a sua liberação, está treinando à parte e em viés de ser negociado pelo Flamengo.

The Premier League is back this weekend, with Crystal Palace taking on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Monday.

They are bidding for their first victory in the league this campaign. The two meetings between the sides last season ended with draws, 0-0 at Selhurst Park, and 1-1 on the road.

Oliver Glasner’s Palace side have averaged 48.6% possession so far this season (11th highest in the division), scoring just five goals, and conceding ten, leaving them 18th in the Premier League after the first seven games.

Forest have averaged 39.3% possession in the league this season, the second lowest in the division, but have managed to score seven goals (more than Palace), and concede just six (fewer than the Eagles), leaving them in a comfortable tenth place.

With both sides averaging less than 50% possession, it is tough to say how this game will be played, and who will take the ascendancy. That being said, a change in system for Palace could see them dominate more of the ball, and profile some of their players better to get the most out of them.

Glasner's 4-2-4 system

Glasner could make changes to his system in his hunt for a first Premier League victory this season, going from his usual 3-4-3 into more of a 4-2-2-2, which was seen in the last 30 minutes against Leicester City earlier in the season.

This would allow the Eagles to get multiple players into their best positions, with Eberechi Eze and Daichi Kamada in attacking midfield roles, Tyrick Michell as a nominal fullback, and a strike partnership of Jean-Phillipe Mateta and Eddie Nketiah.

One of the three central defenders would have to drop out for this to happen, as Maxence Lacroix, Marc Guehi and Trevoh Chalobah all started against Liverpool, and one could drop out for the return of Mateta to the side, to fully unleash the striker pairing people want to see.

The “old-fashioned” striker as labelled by Premier League legend Thierry Henry, has scored four goals this season in nine appearances, also providing one assist, and totaling 623 minutes played.

Overall, Mateta has made 115 appearances for the Eagles, scoring 33 goals and providing seven assists.

His strike partner in this system would be Nketiah, who has made five appearances since joining Palace from Arsenal this summer, scoring one goal in the EFL Cup and totalling 384 minutes. But by playing them alongside each other as strikers, it could get the best out of the pair. Here’s why…

والتقى ليفربول وساوثهامبتون ضمن مباريات الجولة الثامنة والعشرين لبطولة الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز “البريميرليج” على ملعب “آنفيلد”.

محمد صلاح أحرز هدفين لليفربول في الفوز بثلاثية لهدف، وكلاهما من ضربة جزاء بالدقيقتين 54 و88.

وتجاوز محمد صلاح الرقم القياسي لإيان راش بتسجيل 10 أهداف مع الفريق في الدوري ضد ساوثهامبتون، وقد أحرز هدفين، ليصبح رصيده أمام القديسين 11 هدفًا.
