However, while Arsenal’s talks to sign Zubimendi are believed to be at an advanced stage, with personal terms loosely agreed over wages (Ben Jacobs), there is still every chance that a rival club could swoop in to hijack the deal.

Taking this into account, it would be wise for interim Arsenal sporting director Jason Ayto to consider alternatives, with a move for Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong potentially on the table.

According to The Boot Room and journalist Graeme Bailey, intermediaries have contacted Arsenal to gauge their interest in signing de Jong from Barca, with the £302,000-per-week midfielder not exactly enjoying his best campaign at Camp Nou due to injury problems and a lack of form.

The Netherlands international is out of contract in 2026, meaning he could also depart for a cheap fee, which some reports estimate could be as low as £29 million.

De Jong was a top target for ex-Man United boss Erik ten Hag during his time at Old Trafford, and it appears a move to England could still be possible for the 27-year-old.

“Frenkie is an incredible player and for every club in the whole world he will strengthen the squad because he has a unique quality,” said Ten Hag, who worked with De Jong at Ajax (ESPN).

The CAC was last in action to appoint Rahul Dravid as the India head coach a year ago. Madan Lal (chief), Naik and RP Singh had been appointed in that CAC in January 2020 for an initial one year term. Their work began with the appointment of a selection committee as well. But Lal turned 70 last year and had to leave his position because as per the BCCI constitution those over 70 cannot be part of any committee. RP Singh then left the committee because he joined the Mumbai Indians set-up as a talent scout.Malhotra, who will turn 66 in January, was the president of the Indian Cricketers’ Association until October 2022 and was succeeded by Aunshuman Gaekwad. Adelaide Strikers wanted redemption. And they got it. Deandra Dottin produced a starring all-round performance and Darcie Brown’s pace claimed two key wickets as Sydney Sixers’ record-breaking 11 wins in the regular season came up short as they suffered a dramatic top-order collapse.After finishing runners-up twice in the last three seasons, Strikers finally got their hands on the WBBL trophy for the first time in front of a Sixers-dominated crowd of 6478 at the North Sydney Oval.Strikers had made a positive start with the bat with a 51-run opening stand before struggling through the middle phase of the innings, including a power surge that brought just seven runs and two wickets. However, Dottin overcame her own struggles – including being caught off an Ellyse Perry no-ball on 8 – and was chiefly responsible for the 34 runs coming off the last three overs.Still, a target of 148 did not feel like enough to challenge a Sixers line-up that had consistently scored runs this season. But, after a 15-minute delay due to problems caused by the setting sun, that notion was soon blown out of the water: by the end of six overs they were 4 for 17. Two overs of madness
Alyssa Healy could have been run out in the first over of the chase. But then things really turned wild. The third over of the innings from Brown included a dropped catch apiece by Bridget Patterson and Madeline Penna – both offered by Suzie Bates – before Penna redeemed herself off the final ball by clinging onto a rasping pull from Healy. That, though, was just the start. Dottin took the ball for the fifth over and ended with a double-wicket maiden. When Erin Burns, who has been a key figure in Sixers’ middle order, was stumped at the second attempt by Tegan McPharlin the batting was being dismantled. Before the final, Bolton had confirmed this would mark the end of her career. For a short while it looked like she might sign off in stunning fashion as she and Perry rebuilt Sixers’ from their early woes. When Bolton reverse-swept Tahlia McGrath then clubbed her through midwicket there was a sense of a swing in momentum, but a ball later Bolton dragged onto her stumps. To their immense credit, Sixers did not back down from the challenge. Sophie Ecclestone and Maitlan Brown threatened – with 14 coming off the first pver of the power surge – but a brilliant slower ball from Megan Schutt completely deceived Ecclestone. Brown kept on swinging to mean it got close enough to make Sixers wonder what could have been. But there was no denying Strikers their first title.

Barry Ferguson got his interim reign at Glasgow Rangers underway with a 4-2 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park in midweek.

It won’t make a difference in terms of a title challenge, as the Premiership crown is Celtic’s in waiting, yet the result did prove that the club have some fight about them.

When Killie scored twice in the opening 14 minutes, it looked as though it could be a long night for the Ibrox side. Goals from Vaclav Cerny, a brace from Cyriel Dessers and a late strike by Nedim Bajrami sealed the comeback and all three points.

All thoughts will now turn to the match against Motherwell in Glasgow this afternoon, with another three points all that matters to Ferguson and his backroom staff.

Another victory would boost their confidence ahead of the first leg of their Europa League last-16 clash against Fenerbahce next week.

If the club can play like it has done in Europe this season, there is no reason why they couldn’t secure a positive result at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.

Ferguson will relish the challenge against Jose Mourinho, but he must take things one game at a time.

For the tie against the Steelmen, a few changes will be required. That’s a certainty.

The first 15 minutes of the midweek clash at Rugby Park was a horror show defensively.

For the first goal, Joe Wright was left unmarked at the back post, powering in a header from a Killie corner as the Gers’ defence was nowhere to be seen. Robin Propper slipped as he was trying to cover, leaving Wright wide open to score the opener.

The second goal was a fabulous strike by Brad Lyons, but it came due to a lapse in concentration from Clinton Nsiala. Lyons stole the ball and curled a wonderful effort beyond Jack Butland in the goal.

Nsiala was subbed off after just half an hour, yet it was Propper who was arguably the poorer of the two players.

His display was dismal and he hasn’t lived up to expectations since joining Rangers from FC Twente last summer, lacking the physicality required to shine against opposition players in the Scottish top flight.

The Dutch centre-back has played 36 games for the Light Blues since his arrival last year, scoring twice. Despite scoring against Celtic in the 3-0 win at the start of 2025, his displays have left a lot to be desired.

The game against Killie was the nadir for the player, and also the majority of the fans who have been criticising him throughout the entire campaign.

Propper won just three of his seven contested ground duels, regularly being outfought by a physically imposing attack and this meant he completed just 79% of his attempted passes in the process.

The defender also committed three fouls, was successful with just three of his ten long ball attempts and lost possession a staggering 14 times throughout the 90 minutes.

Thankfully, those in the final third managed to register four goals to save the day for the Gers and secure a vital three points.

Writer Gavin Kelly gave Propper a match rating of just 2/10 for his performance on Wednesday evening, stating that he ‘got bullied in every duel, left runners, struggled at set-pieces and was lucky that he didn’t get taken off instead of Clinton Nsiala’, before adding that the summer signing ‘was even worse in the second half with Kilmarnock causing problems every time they targeted Propper.’

It was arguably his poorest performance for the club and he must be dropped for the clash against Motherwell this afternoon.

There is only one candidate who should come in to replace him – James Tavernier.

Why James Tavernier should play at centre-back for Rangers

Tavernier started the clash against Kilmarnock in his usual right-back slot, but when Nsiala was brought off after just 30 minutes, Ferguson instructed the Englishman to move alongside Propper at the heart of the defence, sending on Ridvan Yilmaz on the right side of the back four.

This worked a treat as the 33-year-old was composed alongside the Dutchman. Not only did he make 13 clearances and two interceptions, but Tavernier also won 70% of his total contested duels throughout the game, as well as creating a big chance and registering an assist.

Not bad considering he was playing in a different position compared to usual, and this is why he should start there against Motherwell this afternoon.

Ferguson lavished plenty of praise on his captain following the switch in position, saying: “He was exceptional, I thought he became a real leader. He’s been through a lot in his Rangers career, but he never hides.”

One thing that plenty of supporters picked up on straight after the 4-2 win was how he went and consoled Nsiala, rather than immediately going to celebrate with the away fans.

This is the mark of a true leader, and hopefully he can continue playing like he did on Wednesday between now and the end of the campaign.

The question is, will Ferguson stick with him at the heart of the defence for the Ibrox clash today? Or will someone else come in for Nsiala?

Rafael Fernandes joined on loan in January, but has featured just three times for the Light Blues, and he started the dismal 1-0 defeat to Queen’s Park a few weeks ago in the Scottish Cup.

Ferguson has proved he is capable of making the big calls. He has a massive one to make this afternoon.

Bruno Henrique sofreu uma lesão multiligamentar no joelho direito no jogo do dia 15 de junho, contra o Cuiabá, no Maracanã. Após realizar exames, ficou confirmada a necessidade da cirurgia, realizada nesta manhã.

Nas redes sociais, Bruno Henrique se manifestou e classificou a lesão como a segunda pior notícia de sua carreira. Posteriormente, o atacante recebeu apoio de companheiros de equipe, ex-companheiros, do preparador físico Lluis Sala, da comissão de Paulo Sousa, e até mesmo do Real Madrid.

According to a report from Spain, Chelsea have now stepped up their interest in Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries, and they are now said to be in hot pursuit of the right-back, but there could be stiff competition for his signature.

Manchester United and Arsenal are also named as potential suitors for Dumfries, with the north Londoners viewing him as a key target to bolster their options at right-back, which is a position they are keen on strengthening as a priority.

The Dutchman is now becoming increasingly likely to leave Inter this summer, with the Serie A side setting an asking price of €50m (£42m), making him a relatively affordable option for the three Premier League clubs in the race.
