West Ham fans have high expectations ahead of Watford clash

West Ham United face Watford at Vicarage Road on Sunday in what is David Moyes’ first match in charge, and Irons fans have been having their say ahead of the clash.

The Hammers slipped into the relegation zone before the international break following a 4-1 defeat against Liverpool at the London Stadium – which proved to be Slaven Bilic’s final game as manager – and they are without a Premier League win since September.

Moyes has been tasked with lifting the club away from the bottom three and even though he perhaps wouldn’t have been the first-choice target for the majority of the east London outfit’s faithful, they will need to get behind the Scot and the players gainst a Hornets side that have lost three on the bounce.

West Ham supporters took to social media to give their thoughts ahead of the game in Hertfordshire, and while one said “I expect three points and a clean sheet”, another said he is “strangely confident”.

In Focus: Pressure on Tottenham Hotspur as Real Madrid circle Lloris

Real Madrid will make a move for goalkeeper Hugo Lloris if Tottenham Hotspur fail to win a trophy this season, according to The Mirror.

What’s the story?

Widespread reports have suggested that Los Blancos will be looking for a new shot-stopper when the campaign comes to a close.

Manchester United’s David de Gea and Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois have been touted as possible candidates.

Now, The Mirror claims that Madrid are eyeing Lloris, who could be bought for around £25m if Tottenham end the season without silverware.

The publication states that the Frenchman is happy with life in North London, but is wary of the fact that the club have not won a trophy since 2007-08.

What should Tottenham do?

In this instance, a hike in wages is unlikely to convince Lloris to stay put if he is considering a switch to the Bernabeu.

Given the club’s modest wage structure, the goalkeeper would be handed a much bigger pay packet by Madrid anyway.

When footballers enter their 30s, they are more likely to be assessing their career and if they are at a club that are not winning trophies, a change might be needed.

Tottenham have come close in recent Premier League title races having finished third and then second, but Mauricio Pochettino’s men are already 15 points off the pace this season.

It is difficult for most players to turn down Madrid, and if Spurs end another campaign without silverware, Lloris may edge towards the exit gates.

Man United fans don’t want Ander Herrera to start against Arsenal

Manchester United face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening in the standout fixture of the Premier League weekend, and Red Devils fans don’t want Ander Herrera to start.

With Marouane Fellaini already ruled out and Nemanja Matic a doubt after picking up a knock in the 4-2 win against Watford on Tuesday night, Herrera is in pole position to take a central midfield spot alongside Paul Pogba.

Despite being one of United’s key players last season, the Spaniard has found first-team minutes harder to come by this term by making just five top flight starts and putting in some underwhelming performances.

Man United supporters were quick to have their say on the potential inclusion of the 28-year-old in the team in north London, and while one said if he plays “it’s sadly a guaranteed defeat”, another simply said “Herrera can’t start”.

These two Rangers players seriously need to impress Steven Gerrard during pre-season

Steven Gerrard arrives at Rangers with a difficult job on his hands.

Yet another season spent in the shadow of cross-city rivals Celtic, Rangers stuttered to a third place finish in the Scottish Premier League.

In an attempt to get the club to compete with its neighbours again, Steven Gerrard will have a number of Transfer targets on his mind.

The players will need to impress the Liverpool legend, as he is going into the club with an open mind about his squad. Perform in pre-season, and there is a good chance they will find themselves in Gerrard’s first team plans.

With that in mind, here are two players who need to impress Gerrard in pre season…

Josh Windass

Thirteen goals in the SPL last season, but not quite making his mark at Ibrox, Windass must impress in pre-season. An undoubted talent, but his decision making desperately needs to improve.

It is likely that Steven Gerrard will want to bring new forward options to the club, so Windass will have to fight off the competition and show why he deserves his place.

Jordan Rossiter

As a native of Liverpool who began his career with Liverpool FC, Rossiter will want to impress Gerrard, and show him why he deserves a place in his first team plans.

Now 21, Rossiter made just two SPL appearances last time. He needs to start getting game time to improve, and the way to get game time is to show Gerrard what he is about in pre-season.

Tottenham fans hate links to Joao Mario

According to FC Inter 1908, Tottenham Hotspur have failed in a loan move for Inter Milan attacker Joao Mario.

Mario spent last season on loan at West Ham United – scoring twice in 13 Premier League appearances for the Hammers.

It is understood that the London club turned down the chance to sign the 40-time Portugal international on a permanent deal this summer, but Inter still want to sell.

According to FC Inter 1908, Tottenham approached Inter with a loan bid for Mario, but the Italian giants rejected the offer as they want a permanent deal this summer.

The Tottenham fans have been reacting to the transfer speculation on social media, and it would be fair to say that they are not impressed.

Mario, who has recently been linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers, found it difficult to make his mark at West Ham last season, but he is a very experienced footballer on the international stage, and does have a lot to offer.

A selection of the Twitter reaction from the Tottenham fans can be seen below:

Jose Fonte would be a wonderfully astute signing for Fulham this summer

Fulham fans can’t wait for their first season back in the Premier League to begin.

The Cottagers earned promotion by defeating Aston Villa in the play-off final to cap a wonderful Championship campaign. Slavisa Jokanovic won plenty of praise for his style of play at Craven Cottage, and his side will now get the chance to showcase their talents at the highest level. With a gruelling season ahead, Jokanovic has been active in the transfer market.

Fulham completed a huge £27m deal for Jean Michael Seri, under the noses of Arsenal and Tottenham, which could prove to be one of the signings of the summer. French defender, Maxime le Marchand, also completed a £2m deal from Nice. If Fulham are to survive, more signings are needed.

One man, the Cottagers, should consider signing is former Southampton defender – Jose Fonte. Valued at £1.8m by Transfermarkt, the Portugal international has terminated his contract at Chinese club, Dalian Yifang. Available on a free transfer, Fulham would be wise to bring him to Craven Cottage.

The 34-year-old is a Premier League veteran, and his experience would be crucial in an extremely young squad. Fulham also lack depth at centre-back, and Fonte could prove to be a useful backup option. The former West Ham defender also has experience at international level, starting all four of Portugal’s World Cup fixtures.

While it may not be a signing to get fans off their seat, it could prove to be very smart business.

Fulham fans, thoughts?

West Brom should move for free agent Lacina Traore this summer

TalkSport have reported that, following the expiry of his contract with Monaco, Lacina Traore hopes to return to English football.

Whilst Traore states in the above report that he is open to a Premier League move, his form in recent seasons suggests that a switch to Championship level could be just what he needs to get himself firing again.

Traore’s previous experience in England was a loan move with Everton during the 2013/14 season. After a debut FA Cup goal at Goodison Park, a torn hamstring ruled him out until the final game of the campaign.

The 6’8” striker will be hoping for a more fruitful experience in England this time around, and West Brom could be the ideal place for him to once again strut his stuff on British shores.

The Breakdown

The chance to add a top level striker, who is only 28-years-old, to the ranks at the Hawthorns is not something Darren Moore can allow to pass him by.

The Baggies have already lost several key members of their squad this summer following their relegation from the Premier League, and yet more look set to exit the club before the Championship season kicks off.

With West Brom so light on numbers, Moore will be desperate for reinforcements. At the same time, Traore will be equally desperate to prove that he has what it takes to make it at the top level in England. Firing the Midlands club back into the top tier would be a great start.

The Ivory Coast international has all of the attributes needed to make it in the Championship, and his extraordinary physical presence could become a vital weapon in the Baggies’ arsenal.

On a free transfer, Traore would be worth the punt from West Brom’s point of view. For the big man himself, this could be his best chance to finally prove his quality in England.

Clearing house: Liverpool close to agreeing shrewd £3.5 million deal for Chirivella

Liverpool’s transfer business this summer has been some of the most extravagant in recent memory.

After a bittersweet season which saw the club finish fourth and miss out on the Champions League, Klopp has invested heavily in the squad.

So far Liverpool have managed to bring in Naby Keita, Fabinho, Shaqiri and Alisson to the club as Klopp prepares to launch a significant title challenge to rival Manchester City. However, with Liverpool spending £163.98 million so far in the transfer market, the club now need to sell some players to not only recoup their losses but also clear some deadwood from the squad.

With that in mind, Goal.com is reporting that Liverpool have accepted a £3.5 million bid from Norwegian side, Rosenborg, for Pedro Chirivella.

The Breakdown

The young Spaniard has failed to cement a spot in the first-team and has only made five senior appearances for Liverpool. Although strength in depth is going to be crucial for Liverpool this year, there’s no reason to keep a player on the books who realistically is never going to feature in the starting eleven.

Signed from Valencia’s academy five years ago, the midfielder has spent two seasons on loan in Holland with Willem II and Go Ahead Eagles but hasn’t impressed enough to break through into the first-team.

With the transfer window counting down, the Spaniard will likely be the first of many players to depart the club in what is going to be potentially, a massive season for the Reds.

So Liverpool fans, what do you think of this transfer?

Crunch time for Mike Ashley as Benitez makes his targets known

Rafa Benitez is hoping to sign Danny Ings and Salomon Rondon before the end of the week as he looks to strengthen Newcastle’s striking options, according to The Northern Echo.

What’s the story?

Newcastle have endured another frustrating transfer window with few of Benitez’s targets coming through the gates of St James’ Park this summer.

The Magpies’ boss has made it clear he wants attacking reinforcements and Ings and Rondon have been identified as the men to score the goals next season.

According to the report, the Ings deal may be a season-long loan with a £15million option to buy if the club avoid relegation.

Crunch time for Mike Ashley

Newcastle fans know the score with Mike Ashley and they will be praying that he can deliver the targets that Benitez demands for once.

If they do manage to sign both Ings and Rondon, they will have two very experienced goal scorers who will definitely add to the appalling 39 goals the team managed in the league last season.

The relationship between Ashley and Benitez is fraught and the club know they have a world-class manager on their hands who is over-achieving with the squad and funds he has at his disposal.

It could spell the end of Benitez’s time at the club if Ings and Rondon aren’t brought in after he made it very clear he wants to see them at Newcastle, so the onus is now on Ashley to deliver.

Jordan Ayew would be the ideal upgrade on awful Joselu at Newcastle United

According to a recent report from The Daily Mirror, several Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on Jordan Ayew’s situation at Swansea City. The 26-year-old was part of a Swans side that lost their top-flight status last term but he certainly did his bit to try and keep them in the top tier, exploits which have reportedly attracted the interest of London duo Crystal Palace and Fulham.

And with Ayew himself having reportedly gone AWOL, it looks as though he will be on his way out of the Liberty Stadium this summer, which should interest Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez, as there is little doubting that the striker would be an upgrade on awful Joselu.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, while the Magpies were solid defensively and did well in the middle of the park last season, they were blunt going forward in netting just 39 goals in their 38 Premier League games – only Burnley (36) scored fewer of teams that finished in the top ten.

And Joselu was one man guilty of failing to consistently put the ball in the back of the net, as the Spaniard only managed four goals in 30 Premier League games for the Magpies – a tally which simply isn’t good enough for a side hoping to build upon their tenth place finish this time round.

Thus, it’s pretty clear that serious reinforcements are needed in the striking department if the North East giants are to move forward this season, and while the arrival of Salomon Rondon will certainly aid in that quest, so would the addition of Swansea’s Ayew.

The Ghana international was a rare bright spark in an otherwise miserable campaign for the South Wales outfit last term in scoring seven goals and laying on two assists for the Swans, a goal tally which would have placed him second on Newcastle’s goal-scoring charts last term.

Add that to the seven goals he scored for Aston Villa in the 2015/16 season, and it’s pretty clear that the 26-year-old has genuine pedigree at Premier League level, and as such would add a great deal of quality and indeed depth to Newcastle’s forward ranks.

Clearly, Benitez deserves huge credit for leading the Magpies to tenth place last term, but they were severely limited in the final third of the pitch last season to suggest that any improvement in league position will depend heavily on what attackers they sign this summer.

And with Joselu clearly not up to scratch, with his goal-scoring not good enough and his hold-up play unlikely to be any better than Rondon’s, the North East heavyweights must seek to join the race for Swansea’s Ayew to upgrade on the awful Spaniard.
