Some Manchester United fans have been left to fume at an update involving Edinson Cavani.
As per Argentinian news outlet Olé, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team would like to renew the striker’s current deal at Old Trafford.
This is despite the veteran striker being 34 years of age, with much younger talents like Mason Greenwood able to play in his position, who may find their pathway for a regular starting place blocked by Cavani.
The Uruguay international has been suffering with various injury problems in recent times and has not scored for the Red Devils in over two months now (Transfermarkt), so the decision to potentially reward him with a new contract does seem a little strange.
Of course, Cavani can still be world class on his day, but maybe it is time for MUFC to head in another direction in the transfer market.

O Cruzeiro venceu o Grêmio, na noite deste sábado (1º), por 1 a 0, no Mineirão, e se distanciou da zona de rebaixamento em partida válida pela 28ª rodada do Campeonato Brasileiro. Com gol de Henrique, a equipe comandada por Mano Menezes deixa também o posto de pior mandante do torneio.
Com o resultado obtido no Gigante da Pampulha, os mineiros chegam a 33 pontos e deixam o Figueirense, que enfrentará o Internacional nesta noite, em seu lugar na zona da degola. In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Steve Howey, who made 270 career appearances, believes that losing Jamaal Lascelles through injury will be a big blow for Newcastle United, but hopes they have other leaders in the squad.
Steve Bruce delivered the disappointing news in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Burnley clash that he will be without his captain for what appears to be the remainder of the season, in a match that could give them some serious breathing space from 18th-placed Fulham.
During Callum Wilson’s latest injury, Lascelles has been the club’s top scorer with two headers against Aston Villa and Wolves respectively with both goals earning the Magpies a point in each match.
Speaking on how big of a blow losing Lascelles will be for Newcastle but how he hopes they will have other leaders ready to step up, Howey told FFC:
“Obviously it is a blow losing your skipper, but you’d like to think that there are some more leaders in the group.
“It just came out of nowhere, because there wasn’t any mention of an injury and then all of a sudden, he’s got this stress fracture, which is a blow.”
Lascelles has been an ever-present when fit under Bruce, having featured 19 times in the Premier League this season.
The 26-year old was appointed captain during their last season in the Championship when eyebrows were raised, considering he was just 22-years old at the time, with Rafa Benitez claiming he had a big character and was a leader in the changing room.

Mais tranquilo com os cartões
Em 2015, Dudu ficou marcado por receber muitos cartões e pelo empurrão dado no juiz Guilherme Ceretta. Naquela temporada, foram 13 amarelos, e um vermelho, na final do Paulista que iniciou a confusão com o árbitro. Além disso, o atacante chegou a tomar uma punição de seis meses pelo caso com Ceretta, revertida depois para seis jogos.
Agora, o momento é outro. Em toda a temporada foram apenas quatro amarelos (três no Brasileiro, um no Paulista). O camisa 7 conseguiu passar por jogos importantes como Flamengo e Corinthians sem levar o terceiro. Só foi advertido na vitória contra o Coritiba. Por isto, não vai enfrentar o Santa Cruz.

وكان بيسيرو تولي تدريب الأهلي في موسم 2016، إلا انه قرر الرحيل لتدريب فريق بورتو البرتغالي.
وقال بيسيرو خلال تصريحات لبرنامج كورة كل يوم علي “قناة الحياة”: “ربما كنت أفكر أن أكون مستمرًا مع الأهلي، واخذت القرار منذ زمن بعيد، كنت أريد تدريب فريق بورتو العظيم ويضم لاعبين رائعين، وكانوا لديهم إصرار أن أتولى الإدارة الفنية للفريق البرتغالي”.
وأضاف: “كان الأفضل أن استمر مع الأهلي لموسم محلي وإفريقي، كان رحيلي عن الأحمر خطأ كبير”.
وتابع: “افتقد الوقت الذي قضيته في الأهلي وكنت أتمنى أن أقضى وقت أكثر، الأهلي فريق رائع جدًا وهو بطل إفريقيا، ويضم لاعبين جيدين جدًا، وممن الممكن أن يتقدم في كأس العالم للأندية”.
وعن كأس أمم إفريقيا، ومنتخب مصر، أوضح: “هذه منافسة قوية جدًا بين جميع المنتخبات، ومنها نيجيريا التي ظهرت بشكل جيد وكان المنتخب الأفضل في دوري المجموعات، الفرق الأربعة الأقوى في البطولة وصلوا للدور قبل النهائي”.
وواصل: “مصر لم تواجه نيجيريا بشكل طيب، وبعد ذلك انطلقت وتحسنت وأظهر لاعبيها قدراتهم وقدموا مباراة جيدة أمام المغرب، منتخب مصر يمكنه الفوز بكأس أمم إفريقيا”.

وأردف: “مباراة مصر والكاميرون ستكون رائعة، الكاميرون تلعب على أرضها ولها مشجعين، وشاهدت كل المباريات، ومصر كما تعلمون قوية”.
واستمر: “الفريق الأقل ارتكابًا للأخطاء هو من سيفوز، أتمنى أن تقدم مصر مباراة رائعة كما لعبت في دور الثمانية، مصر منتخب رائع ومنظم وكيروش يؤدي بشكل طيب، كل مباراة أداء الفراعنة يتحسن من مباراة لأخرى”.
وأكمل: “عندما يكون لدى منتخب مصر نجم مثل محمد صلاح وهو واحد من أفضل لاعبي العالم ويلعب في الدوري الإنجليزي، من الطبيعي أن يتحدث معه المدير الفني، ولا بد لهذا اللاعب أن يكون حلقة الوصل بين المدرب واللاعبين، وصلاح هو كابتن منتخب مصر”.
In recent years, Sunderland have had the unfortunate experience of seeing a number of their academy stars leave the Stadium of Light in search of first-team football away from the Black Cats.
You can hardly blame them, however, when you consider the rather questionable ownership of Stewart Donald.
The club’s U23 side failed to win a single game last season but that’s no surprise after who left. Sam Greenwood, now of Leeds, departed for Arsenal in 2018 and he was then followed in controversial circumstances by Josh Maja a year later.
The Fulham striker wasn’t the last, however. Bali Mumba, Joe Hugill, Luke Hewitson, Morten Spencer and Logan Pye have all walked through the exit door. They have now also been joined by Mitchell Curry who has gone to Inter Miami.
This has been a trend before Maja and co even burst onto the scene. Two high profile examples, Jordan Pickford left for Everton and Jordan Henderson went to Liverpool.
The midfielder departed in 2011 for a fee of around £16m and since then, his career has taken off in some style.
Henderson wasn’t a fan favourite at Anfield initially but he is now one of their standout players, an individual who goes under the radar on a regular basis.
After exiting the Stadium of Light ten years ago, he admitted it was hard to leave his boyhood club but the decision to move to Merseyside has undoubtedly been vindicated.
Considering his immense career trajectory, it’s baffling to think he was almost let go when he was still a trainee. Before making his breakthrough under Roy Keane, he could have been left in the doldrums somewhere.
Former Sunderland manager Ricky Sbragia once told the Mirror: “There was one professional contract still to be handed out, and it was a straight choice between three of the academy lads.”

Sbragia continued: “The night before the decision had to be made, it still hadn’t been decided. As I left for home, I didn’t have a clue which one would get the nod. When I came back in the following day, Jordan had been chosen.”
It’s fairly evident why; he had plenty of desirable attributes. He wasn’t able to show them in the north-east for long but he has demonstrated them on plentiful occasions for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
Henderson has now made 392 appearances for the Premier League outfit and while his boyhood club Sunderland have fallen down the football pyramid, Liverpool have become one of the best in the world.
With the 30-year-old as captain, he has won the Premier League, the Champions League and the Club World Cup.
He is an FWA Premier League Player of the Year winner and is one of the first names on the team sheet for England. Sunderland knew they had a gem but it’s unlikely they will have envisaged his career panning out quite as it has.
Henderson’s transfer value soared to £31.5m, an increase of £15.5m in the year the Reds ran rampant in Europe. He is a shining example to everyone at Anfield and now has to go down as one of the most consistent players in the top-flight.

Speaking about the Liverpool star in 2018, Gary Neville commented on the way he succeeded Steven Gerrard in the middle of the park:

O ano era 1998. O Corinthians tinha Gamarra, Rincón, Marcelinho Carioca e outros astros. Mas na tarde daquele domingo, 7 de junho, o técnico era um desconhecido: Oswaldo de Oliveira. O “titular” Vanderlei Luxemburgo estava na França, comentando a Copa do Mundo no canal a cabo SporTV e deixou seu auxiliar comandando a equipe em treinos e amistosos, como o daquela tarde, contra o União Barbarense.
Oito anos após ao empate em 1 a 1 naquela partida de estreia, Oswaldo volta ao Timão para a sua terceira passagem. De lá para cá, muita coisa mudou na vida do treinador e do clube, que juntos tiveram 114 partidas, 59 vitórias, 22 empates e 33 derrotas. Os dados estão no Almanaque do Corinthians.
Depois de substituir Luxa no amistoso, Oswaldo teve de esperar mais alguns meses até assumir o posto de técnico alvinegro de forma oficial. E por pouco não deu certo… Efetivado no início de 1999, quando Luxemburgo decidiu dedicar-se integralmente à Seleção, ele teve inicio ruim no cargo efoi afastado por uma série negativa no Torneio Rio-São Paulo, com direito a goleada de 6 a 1 sofrida para o Botafogo.
O Corinthians recorreu então a Evaristo de Macedo. Três meses depois, porém, o comandante alvinegro foi demitido e o auxiliar Oswaldo de Oliveira foi novamente efetivado. Desta vez, porém, ele agarraria a chance e levaria o clube a dois títulos na temporada, Paulistão e Brasileiro.
A eliminação nas quartas de final da Libertadores para o Palmeiras fez o técnico balançar. Porém, ele resistiu e, no início de 2000, conquistou um dos títulos mais importantes dele e do clube, o Mundial de Clubes, no Rio de Janeiro.
Entretanto, meses depois viria uma nova queda no torneio sul-americano para o rival alviverde.O Timão perdeu para o Palmeiras na semifinal e, logo depois, sob protestos da Fiel torcida, Oswaldo caiu.
Em 2004, Oswaldo retornou ao Parque São Jorge com a árdua tarefa de recuperar o time, que vivia fase ruim. No Paulistão, teve êxito e conseguiu escapar do rebaixamento na última rodada. Porém, a eliminação nas quartas de final da Copa do Brasil aliada às goleadas no Brasileirão para Grêmio (0-4), Palmeiras (0-4) e Atlético-PR (0-5) foram fatais e culminaram na sua segunda demissão do Corinthians.
Agora, aos 65 anos, o treinador retorna para escrever mais um capítulo de sua história no Timão. A estreia pode acontecer já no domingo, contra o América-MG, na Arena Corinthians.
