England cricketer Claire Taylor received her MBE at Windsor Castle today. Taylor was part of the England side that won both the Women’s World Cup and the Women’s World Twenty20 last year, cracking an unbeaten half-century to guide England to victory over Australia in the semi-final of the Twenty20 tournament. She was Player of the Tournament at both events and was named Women’s Player of the Year at the ICC Awards in Johannesburg.A veteran of England’s Women’s side, she has played 114 one-day internationals and 15 Tests since making her debut in an ODI against Australia at Southampton in 1998. She has also been a valued member of Berkshire and club Reading Ridgeway for over 14 years, and is currently ranked second in the world in the ICC ODI batting rankings.”It was such a huge honour today,” Taylor said after receiving her MBE. To be presented with this by the Queen at Windsor Castle, it’s brilliant. I’m so honoured.””It’s best not to think about these things actually,” she added. “You concentrate on the things you’re good at, that you enjoy. In my case, that’s playing cricket and it’s putting on an England shirt and playing for your country. If you’re lucky – and I have been to do all that – it’s fantastic.”I wouldn’t be here if the team hadn’t played some really great cricket. Hopefully, what they’ve done inspires a few others to take up the path of cricket. It’s a great sport and you can get great rewards from it.”When asked to identify her personal highlights from a long international career, Taylor explained: “Chases as a batsman test me mentally and technically so they mean more to me. We’ve had some great performances over the last twelve months and I’d probably pick chasing 160-odd to beat Australia to get into the World Twenty20 Final.”Clare Connor, ECB’s Head of England Women’s Cricket, paid tribute to Taylor after she received her prestigious award. “Claire Taylor’s contribution to women’s cricket is immense,” she said. “Claire has amassed over 5,000 runs in all formats of international cricket.”In February 2008, she notched up her seventh century to become the joint highest century-maker in women’s ODIs. In 2009 she made history when she was named as one of Wisden’s Five Cricketers of the Year – the first female to receive the accolade.”In 2009 she was instrumental in England lifting two ICC trophies, the World Cup and the World Twenty20; in both tournaments Claire was named Player of the Tournament for her consistent contributions with the bat,” she added.”Claire’s influence stretches far beyond the England team. She helps raise standards of girls’ cricket in her area through working on a Gifted and Talented Programme and she is heavily involved in Sport Relief this year. In short, she is a tremendous ambassador for our sport and she thoroughly deserves to be recognised with the honour of an MBE.”

Weverton foi cortado porque tem acordo para defender justamente o Palmeiras a partir de 2018. O contrato dele com o Furacão só termina em maio, mas ele deve se apresentar na Academia de Futebol já em janeiro.

As partes ainda não divulgaram se o Atlético-PR receberá dinheiro ou atletas para liberar o goleiro antes do término do vínculo.

Weverton fez 318 partidas pelo Atlético-PR, clube que defende desde a metade de 2012. Ele foi campeão estadual no ano passado, meses antes de ser convocado para defender a Seleção Brasileira na Olimpíada do Rio de Janeiro, onde conquistou a medalha de ouro.

Curiosamente, foi chamado por Rogério Micale para substituir Fernando Prass, que se lesionou na ocasião e agora será seu companheiro no Palmeiras. O goleiro de 39 anos assinou neste sábado a sua renovação com o Verdão e garantiu permanência até dezembro de 2018. Inclusive, ele será titular neste domingo após cumprir suspensão contra o Botafogo.

Os outros goleiros do elenco palmeirense são Jailson, Vinicius Silvestre e Daniel Fuzato. O clube chegou a encaminhar um acordo com César, do Londrina, mas o discurso no momento é de que ele não será contratado.

Antes de Weverton, o Palmeiras contratou o zagueiro Emerson Santos (Botafogo), o lateral-esquerdo Diogo Barbosa (Cruzeiro) e o meia Lucas Lima (Santos). O clube também entrará na briga pelo lateral-direito Rafinha, do Bayern de Munique (ALE), caso ele confirme o desejo de retornar ao Brasil em 2018. O atacante David, do Vitória, é outro que agrada.

Lots of Sunderland fans have been blasting the performance of Tom Flanagan in their 1-1 draw at Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

It was a disappointing draw in the end for Lee Johnson’s team, who took the lead through Aiden O’Brien. Ross Sykes was later given a red card for the home side, but they still managed to snatch a late equaliser through Mitchell Clark.

Nonetheless, Flanagan struggled at times at the back, losing out on five duels, while he also made just one interception and gave possession away 17 times, the fifth-most out of any Black Cats player (SofaScore).

Some Sunderland fans are becoming increasingly agitated with his performances of late, and the Northern Ireland defender knows that he needs to improve amid a promotion charge.

As a man who once feared his international career would be limited to five wicketless overs in a forgotten ODI in Bloemfontein, Graeme Swann is in a hurry to make up for lost time. So much so, that even when the conditions have seemingly been designed to slow him down, he still continues to take strides into the history books. On Tuesday in Chittagong, he completed the first ten-wicket haul of his career (having earlier in the game bagged a wicket in the first over of a spell for the 18th occasion in 17 Tests) to emulate the late, great Jim Laker, the last England offspinner to achieve such a feat, in 1956.Laker, as it happens, grabbed the small matter of 19 for 90 on that famous occasion at Old Trafford to secure match figures that may never be equalled. But he would at least have sympathised with the hard toil that Swann had to put in to get his rewards, having whirled his way through 51.2 overs in Australia’s second innings of that match, compared to Swann’s 49 on days four and five in Chittagong.”I certainly didn’t realise I was the first since Jim Laker, so to be in that esteemed company is a really nice feeling,” Swann said. “But I wasn’t thinking about that when I was bowling. All I was thinking about was how on earth are we going to break this partnership that has lasted for four-and-a-half hours, so to get through that and end up with ten was the icing on the cake.”The partnership in question, between Junaid Siddique and Mushfiqur Rahim, spanned 69.4 overs and more than two sessions, and had worn England’s patience to the bone by the time the breakthrough did finally come. Two overs after lunch, Junaid propped forward to be caught at slip by Paul Collingwood, and Swann’s loud and clear reaction was one that he instantly regretted. Laker, who used to celebrate his wickets with a cursory handshake and a flick of his jumper over the shoulder, most certainly would not have approved”It all happened in the heat of the moment and it certainly wasn’t anything malicious,” said Swann. “I apologise unreservedly if I did swear – and I know I did – because it’s certainly not something I condone. Not giving an inch, that’s what international cricket is about.”If Swann really is in his captain’s bad books, then he is unlikely to remain there very long, because Cook knows that his spinner is England’s most potent matchwinner of recent times. He has now claimed 79 wickets in 17 Tests, including six five-fors – the last of which came during their memorable innings victory over South Africa at Durban. In addition to those, he played key roles in both of England’s victories over Australia at Lord’s and The Oval in the summer, and Cook believes that he’s heading for a special slot in England’s annals.”Swanny has so much control of his game,” said Cook. “He’s very easy to captain, he knows the fields he wants, and you trust him to make the breakthrough. To get ten on that wicket was an amazing effort, and he bowled a lot of overs so that shows his determination. Everything is going right for him, and the skill he’s shown over the past 12 months proves it’s not a fluke. If he keeps his feet on the ground, there’s no reason why he can’t [be one of the greats]. If he can keep producing performances, I’m sure he’ll continue doing it.”Efforts such as the one he produced in this match will aid his overall development as a player, because as Swann himself said, he was forced to alter his natural gameplan to conquer conditions that didn’t aid his variations. There was even an unveiling of a ball that went the other way, which he coyly admitted was something he’d been working on – “I’ve not come up with a name for it yet, as spinners are supposed to do,” he said. “Perhaps I’ll call it the Chittagong.”It was a flat pitch, but there wasn’t any pace either, so my normal trick of trying to slide one off the pitch for an lbw against the left-hander was straight out of the window,” he said. “It didn’t turn anything like as much as we hoped it would as the game wore on, which is probably the reason why Bangladesh bowled first to start with, even though that worked in our favour.”Overall, however, Chittagong provided another five days of satisfaction to file away in Swann’s cuttings book, even if today’s effort did require a change of cap at lunch to ensure a swift end to proceedings. “It just keeps getting better, and I’m more than happy with how things are going,” he said. “But I’m very superstitious. If I’ve not taken a wicket for a while, then you’ll probably find me changing my hat or switching the bails around.”

In a story that feels as if it has now been rumbling on for the best part of a year, Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side have once again been linked with a move to bring Lee Buchanan to Parkhead in the January transfer window.

Indeed, Derbyshire Live reported on Sunday that the Bhoys – alongside the likes of Nottingham Forest and West Ham United – have renewed their interest in the Derby County left-back, while Watford and other unnamed English sides are also believed to be tracking the 20-year-old ahead of a potential move this month.

It is easy to see why Postecoglou would be interested in securing a deal for the England U20 international this January, as Buchanan is undoubtedly a player who boasts a significant amount of potential, and would appear to be available on something of a cut-price deal – considering the fact his current contract at Pride Park expires at the end of the season, in addition to Derby’s rather dire financial situation.

Furthermore, left-back is an area of the Hoops squad that lacks any real strength in depth, as, behind first-choice Greg Taylor, the Greek-Australian manager has only the options of 19-year-old Adam Montgomery and the outcasted 26-year-old Boli Bolingoli.

And, with the latter of this trio being linked with a move away from Parkhead this month, a January swoop for Buchanan could well prove to be the final nail in the coffin for the £16k-per-week dud who Neil Lennon once dubbed “selfish.”

Indeed, the Derby defender is undoubtedly a player who has a much higher ceiling than the former Belgium U16 international, with Wayne Rooney stating of the 20-year-old: “He’s a top, top player. I’d argue he’s one of the best young left-backs in the country. And he can go to another level as well. He’s a real top player.”

It is not difficult to see why the former England captain feels this way, as, despite his tender age, the £2.25m-rated full-back has already gone on to make 60 first-team appearances for the Rams – 35 of which came in the Championship last time out, when Buchanan played a key role in helping his side survive relegation to League One on the final day of the season.

As such, when taking into account all of the above, it would indeed appear a very wise move for Postecoglou to finally axe Bolingoli this month, before reinvesting the Belgian’s wages and potential transfer funds into a move for the Derby starlet.

A decisão de Raí de aceitar o cargo de diretor-executivo do São Paulo, em uma primeira análise, é boa para o futebol brasileiro, carente de modernidade, para o clube, que precisa de gente como ele no comando e para o presidente Leco, que encontrou um nome capaz de passar bem por todas as áreas da conturbada política são-paulina. Mas é incerta para o próprio ex-jogador.

Raí, assim como Rogerio Ceni, é um símbolo de uma fase vitoriosa da história do Tricolor. Sua indicação foi saudada pela torcida. Como a de Ceni também foi naquele já longínquo dezembro de 2016. Ceni durou seis meses no cargo. Amargou eliminações sucessivas na Copa do Brasil, no Paulistão e, a última, na Sul-Americana para um inexpressivo Defensa Y Justicia que fazia sua primeira partida internacional em cem anos de fundação. Terminou seu mandato com a imagem de ídolo arranhada por um aproveitamento irrisório de 49,5% com 37 jogos, 14 vitórias, 13 empates, dez derrotas e o time na zona de rebaixamento do Brasileirão.

A culpa do fracasso foi toda de Rogério Ceni? Em boa parte, sim. Apesar de ter se apresentado com rara ousadia nos métodos de trabalho, convicções sólidas e propostas bem definidas de um futebol moderno, Ceni não conseguiu fazer com que o time correspondesse em campo às suas ideias. Talvez tenha pesado a inexperiência de um primeiro trabalho do outro lado do balcão. Mas enfrentou, e isso é inegável, pressões e dificuldades que vinham de fora de campo, como o entra e sai de jogadores – ao todo escalou 38 em seu time – e as intrigas e, não é errôneo dizer, sabotagens, de grupos rivais na política são-paulina, agravadas pela falta de sustentação de uma diretoria fragilizada. Certamente algo andou errado no CT da Barra Funda. Mas, também, nos gabinetes do Morumbi.

Vale lembrar o papel que teve à época o presidente Carlos Augusto de Barros e Silva. As declarações do mandatário após a demissão foram todas tentando se esquivar de culpa, jogando sobre o técnico toda a responsabilidade pelo momento crítico vivido pelo Tricolor. Como se – ainda que toda a culpa fosse de Ceni – não tivesse sido ele quem escolheu o ídolo para uma função que nunca havia exercido com promessas de que seria um trabalho de longo prazo, capaz de resistir à turbulência dos resultados e com carta branca para agir. Leco jogou Ceni às feras como se fosse mais um, sem história no clube.

Carta branca, aliás, é uma condição chave para que Raí não siga, na diretoria de futebol, o mesmo caminho de Ceni como técnico do time. Ao assumir o cargo, o irmão de Sócrates disse que recebeu do presidente a promessa de que teria autonomia para gerir o seu departamento. Certamente foi o mesmo que ouviu, em abril, seu antecessor, Vinicius Pinotti, que acabou se deparando com uma situação exatamente ao inverso, enfrentando o excesso de interferência de Leco que, ao menos segundo ele, inviabilizava negociações e atropelava decisões tomadas no futebol Tricolor. Resta saber se com Raí será diferente. E se ele terá o sangue frio e o jogo de cintura para brigar – e se impor – caso as coisas aconteçam de forma diferente.

A história de Ceni e Raí, assumindo funções nos clubes onde foram ídolos, obviamente não é única. Há exemplos bem-sucedidos, como o de Paulo Cesar Carpegiani que de jogador virou técnico e levou o Flamengo ao título mundial no Japão, ou, o mais recente e marcante de todos, o de Renato Portaluppi, único brasileiro a conquistar a Libertadores como jogador e treinador, campeão mundial pelo Grêmio e, agora, com a possibilidade de repetir a dose nos Emirados Árabes Unidos, em mais um torneio da Fifa. Mas também há fracassos como o de Falcão, pentacampeão gaúcho e tricampeão brasileiro no meio-campo do Inter, que teve seu prestígio arranhado após três passagens pelo Colorado como treinador, ou de Júnior, que ganhou quatro Brasileirões, Libertadores, Mundial e Copa do Brasil pelo Flamengo, mas não teve êxito dirigindo o time.

Que a história de Raí – ele já teve uma passagem fora de campo no São Paulo – possa estar mais para Renato do que para Falcão, mais para Carpegiani do que para Júnior. – Nós estamos trabalhando nessa nova situação, que o clube tem que pagar todos os impostos. O Atlético-MG é o único clube brasileiro que antecipou as parcelas do ProFut até o final de 2021, usando recursos que estavam bloqueados, mas ainda assim o clube tem despesas correntes. O clube precisa cada vez mais crescer nas receitas e controlaros gastos. E o presidente está inserido nesse propósito para que o clube respeite não só sua condição financeira, mas também a legislação. Esse novo triênio seguirá esse caminho – disse o ex-diretor jurídico do Galo, Lásaro Cândido.

Com o dinheiro escasso e sem muitos investidores para buscar grandes reforços, o presidente do Atlético-MG revelou como a diretoria pretende lidar com o mercado para contratar novos jogadores.

– Nós vamos na base da troca. Temos alguns jogadores retornando e são jogadores que alguns interessam em outros clubes. Pega dois, eu pego um. É dentro dessa condição, porque dinheiro mesmo são poucos clubes que tem. O que estou buscando é para colocar a folha do clube em dia e melhorar a nossa situação. Acredito que vamos virar o ano em uma condição quase 100% em dia com a folha. Pagamos essa semana o salário. Estou tendo que trocar essa roda de avião em pleno voo – analisouSérgio Sette Câmara.

Os jogadores do Atlético-MG vão se reapresentar no dia 4 de janeiro. Até agora, as novidades no elenco são Arouca e Samuel Xavier.
