Pundit says Josh Windass has agreement with Darren Moore

Carlton Palmer reckons that Josh Windass has an agreement with Darren Moore about his future – but will stay at Sheffield Wednesday providing they fight for promotion this season.

The Owls have made an excellent start on their return to League One, collecting four points from their first two matches as they bid to make an instant return to the Championship.

However, Windass is yet to feature in Wednesday’s three competitive matches this season, with a hamstring problem set to keep him out for a lengthy amount of time.

But whilst Windass’ injury is a major blow for the Owls in the pitch, his period on the sidelines appeared to play some part in the attacker committing his future to the Hillsborough outfit following his recent contract extension.

Palmer, though, believes that the former Rangers man will remain with the club past next season should they compete at the top end of the League One standings this term.

When asked whether he’s delighted about Windass’ recent extension, former Owls midfielder Palmer exclusively told The Transfer Tavern:

“Josh is too good for this league. You know he’s going to score goals in this league, but reading between the lines, he’s got an agreement with Darren Moore.

“The injury has stopped him leaving, it probably came at a good time, because no club wants to sign a player knowing he’s going to be out for a long time.

“But if Sheffield Wednesday are in contention for promotion, then he’ll stay, if not, then he’ll leave.”

Journalist lifts lid on major Kane update at Spurs

Writing for a piece for The Independent and sharing his update on Twitter, journalist Miguel Delaney has lifted the lid on a major Harry Kane update for Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lowdown: City eye Kane move…

As reported by Sky Sports, City’s supposed ‘next bid’ for the 28-year-old superstar amounts to a fee of around £127m (via Football Daily), a figure which chairman Daniel Levy has no interest in accepting.

Beforehand, Fabrizio Romano claimed the Premier League champions lodged a £100 million bid for Kane back in June and were open to discussing player exchanges as part of a potential deal.

While these approaches and figures haven’t been enough, reliable sources like Sam Lee and Charlie Eccleshare believe that Levy could entertain offers closer to £150m (The Athletic).

Bearing that in mind, journalist Delaney has now brought a major update on what City are willing to do next.

The Latest: Delaney drops major Kane update…

As per the reporter, City are yet again prepared to increase their bid for Kane as they eye a replacement for club legend Sergio Aguero.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-news/” title=”Tottenham latest news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Not only that, but Delaney believes the Sky Blues are now open to tabling an offer of around £150m – a figure tipped by many to turn Levy’s head.

“Man City prepared to go to £150m for Kane, which many believe would at least get Spurs talking,” the reporter explained on Twitter.

Indeed, sharing more information in The Independent, the journalist believes that Pep Guardiola’s side could now go as high as that figure in the last two weeks of the transfer window.

He also explains that ‘many sources’ are now saying that ‘could be enough’ to bring Tottenham to the negotiating table.

Levy has apparently been ‘furious’ at the nature of some exit links surrounding Kane whilst remaining firm in his stance that the forward is not for sale, but there is also an ‘increasing feeling’ the situation is changing.

This is due to the player’s own handling of the situation which has made him slightly more unpopular with the fanbase, something which could make a sale more acceptable.

The Verdict: £150m? Sell…

Kane’s importance to Tottenham over these last few seasons cannot be understated, as highlighted by his most recent Premier League campaign where he bagged an incredible 23 goals and 14 assists (WhoScored).

However, if City do lodge a record-breaking £150m bid, it would be foolish for Spurs not to accept it – especially when taking into considering the player’s age.

Tottenham would arguably never receive a better offer for Kane again as he slowly approaches the twilight phase of his career and managing director Fabio Paratici may work wonders with a significantly bolstered transfer kitty.

Taking the striker’s own wishes for a departure into consideration, accepting an huge offer of that ilk would arguably be best for all parties involved.

Expert names Man United target Eduardo Camavinga’s price

French football expert Adam White insists Manchester United will not have to pay over the odds to win the race for sought-after teenager Eduardo Camavinga.

The 18-year-old, who is currently on the books of Ligue One side Rennes, has been on United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s radar all summer.

Fierce rivals Liverpool have also been tracking Camavinga for some time, along with Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Arsenal.

The central midfielder featured 39 times last season, scoring one goal and adding three assists, and has been involved in both of Rennes’ Ligue One fixtures so far this term.

He has also won three caps for France thanks to his impressive form.

United have already spent big to seal the signings of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho and Real Madrid central defender Raphael Varane this summer, but Get French Football News’ White has revealed the Red Devils will not need to break the bank to persuade Rennes to part with Camavinga.

He told Football FanCast: “There’s been talk of a €40 million fee but Rennes will take less than 40 million.”

Liverpool linked with Adama Traore

With just a week to go before the transfer window shuts, Liverpool are expected to be active in the market until the final hours and have duly been linked with a move for Wolves winger Adama Traore.

What’s the story?

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are keen to bring the 25-year-old to Anfield this summer, although fellow Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur are also admirers.

“For Liverpool, it depends on the (Divock) Origi or (Xherdan) Shaqiri situation,” Romano revealed on the Don Robbie YouTube channel (as relayed by the Liverpool Echo). “For Tottenham, they’re trying to resolve the situation of Harry Kane. If they sell Kane, Traore could be one of the names on the list.

“Nuno, of course, likes the player. I’m told the Tottenham board have some interest in Traore. He is not a priority now, but he is one of the names on the list.”

With Shaqiri now completing his move to Lyon and Kane appearing no closer to a Spurs exit, Liverpool could be in the driving seat for Traore as the August 31 deadline fast approaches.

Liverpool fans will be buzzing

Traore has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting forward players since arriving at Molineux back in 2018, scoring 10 goals and providing 18 assists in 133 appearances for the Midlands outfit.

Although he can also be a very frustrating figure, often failing to pick out the right pass or stick the ball in the back of the net following a fabulous burst down the wing, the Spain international is still a constant threat to any top-flight defence.

Therefore, plenty of Liverpool fans will surely be buzzing to learn of the club’s interest in the £27m-rated speed demon.

While the Anfield outfit’s front four of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota have all started the new campaign well, each getting on the scoresheet in their opening two fixtures, the lack of strength in depth may be a major concern for Jurgen Klopp.

If Origi follows Shaqiri out the exit door, as has been touted, then a replacement will surely be needed on Merseyside, and Traore would be an ideal candidate to come in and bolster Klopp’s attacking depth.

Lingard won’t make West Ham return

West Ham won’t be bringing Jesse Lingard back to the club this summer, with the midfielder now all set to stay put at Manchester United.

The Lowdown: Lingard excels at West Ham

The Hammers enjoyed an excellent 2020/21 season, qualifying for the Europa League, and Lingard was one of the standout performers.

The 28-year-old scored nine Premier League goals in just 16 appearances after arriving on loan in January, excelling for David Moyes’ side.

The Latest: Midfielder set for United stay

There have been constant rumours linking Lingard with a return to the London Stadium this summer, but according to talkSPORT, he will remain at United:

“BREAKING: Jesse Lingard will stay at MUFC this summer. WHUFC were keen to re-sign Lingard, but couldn’t meet United’s £25M asking price – talkSPORT sources understand.”

The Verdict: Shame, but Vlasic fills the void

Re-signing Lingard would have capped off an exciting final couple of days of the transfer window at West Ham – he was hailed as ‘amazing’ by Rio Ferdinand last season – but it is also no great blow to miss out on him.

The Hammers still have a hugely exciting midfield and attack comprising of the likes of Declan Rice, Pablo Fornals, Jarrod Bowen, Said Benrahma and Michail Antonio, which bodes well for the campaign ahead, with new arrival Nikola Vlasic surely the man to fill the gap left by Lingard.

Lingard’s impact last term will always be appreciated by West Ham supporters, however, and it will certainly be a storyline to watch out for whether Vlasic can perform to those ‘amazing’ levels himself.

Newcastle transfer news on Tuanzebe

Lee Ryder has now revealed how much Newcastle United were told to pay to sign Axel Tuanzebe on loan in the summer transfer window.

The Lowdown: Tuanzebe preferred Newcastle

As per The Daily Telegraph, Tuanzebe preferred a move to St. James’ Park, but the North East club could not afford his loan fee.

Instead, the central defender ended up moving to Aston Villa from Manchester United on loan for the rest of the 2021/22 season.

The Latest: Loan fee

Writing in his latest piece for The Chronicle, Ryder has revealed that Steve Bruce and the Tyneside outfit were told that they would have to pay an ‘eye-watering’ £5m fee to take Tuanzebe on loan.

The Magpies simply could not afford it, and so he ended up at Villa Park instead.

The Verdict: Shame

It is a shame that the Toon were not able to bring in Tuanzebe, as he would have given Bruce another handy option in the heart of the defence.

Described as ‘outstanding’ by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after a highly impressive display in the UEFA Europa League against Granada back in April, the Englishman is capable of playing at a high level, having also notched up a good amount of experience in playing in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

Nonetheless, Tuanzebe is versatile and has a lot of potential at 23 years of age, and that could well have been fulfilled at NUFC.

Liverpool fans livid at journalist’s update

A number of Liverpool supporters are fuming about a lack of squad depth after journalist David Lynch provided a Reds injury update.

Jurgen Klopp had a quiet summer in the transfer market, only signing Ibrahima Konate and waving goodbye to the likes of Gini Wijnaldum and Xherdan Shaqiri, among others.

The lack of business left plenty of fans unhappy, with a lack of squad depth claimed as the reason for this.

[freshpress-quiz id=“359326”]

Liverpool are already looking slightly light in attacking areas this season, with Lynch confirming on Twitter on Thursday that Roberto Firmino and Takumi Minamino are both out of Sunday’s trip to Leeds United in the Premier League.

It means Divock Origi is the only genuine attacking option from the substitutes’ bench, assuming Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota all start.

Liverpool fans unhappy with lack of squad depth

These Liverpool fans took to Twitter to show their frustration at the situation.

“So assuming Liverpool start Salah, Jota and Mane against Leeds, #LFC’s forward options off the bench will be Oxlade-Chamberlain and Origi. This is what some #LFC fans mean when they say the squad is clearly lacking depth.”

Jemson suggests ex-England boss as new Forest manager

Former Nottingham Forest star Nigel Jemson insists that Sam Allardyce would be a superb appointment as the club’s new manager.

The club are attempting to appoint a successor to Chris Hughton after sacking the former Newcastle United boss earlier this week.

They have endured a terrible start to the season and are currently rooted to the bottom of the Championship table.

Forest are looking to bring in a replacement to Hughton and Steve Cooper is reportedly the favourite to take the reins at the City Ground.

However, Allardyce is available after leaving West Bromwich Albion following his first relegation as a manager.

And Jemson believes that the experienced boss, who has managed the likes of West Ham United, Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Everton and Newcastle United, along with a short-lived stint as England boss, would be an excellent appointment.

Jemson said: “You look at people like Sam Allardyce. Tried and trusted. They’re usually there to get people out of turmoil. I know Sam personally very well, I played with him at Preston.

“He would be a great person to get in there because he would be a no nonsense manager but, again, it’s whether he wants that job.”

Forest are still searching for their first win of the season.

Liverpool fans urge Reds to sign Bellingham

A number of Liverpool supporters have urged the Reds to sign England international Jude Bellingham after he was linked with a move to Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp didn’t do much transfer business during the summer window, only bringing in Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.

Meanwhile, the likes of Gini Wijnaldum and Xherdan Shaqiri headed to pastures new and after the injury to Harvey Elliott the squad certainly feels a bit light in midfield.

[freshpress-quiz id=“359326”]

That is looking even more of an issue now that Thiago and Naby Keita are also currently injured, leaving Klopp with a lack of options.

According to Bild [via LFC Transfer Room on Twitter], Liverpool are interested in signing Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund, even though Klopp is unsure about buying players from his former club.

Paul Onuachu likely to join West Ham

West Ham United could look to sign Paul Onuachu in the winter transfer window…

What’s the word?

According to Sport/Voetbal magazine journalist Peter t’Kint, the Irons will ramp up their interest in the Genk striker should he deliver during their Europa League meeting in a few weeks time.

He claimed:

“In a few weeks, after the international break, there will be a showdown with West Ham, we are looking forward to that with great anticipation. If Paul Onuachu also hands over his business card [to West Ham], he will be gone in January, unfortunately.

During the summer, reports emerged first linking the Premier League side to the 27-year-old Nigeria international but it was thought that the Hammers weren’t prepared to meet Genk’s £22m asking price.

Transfermarkt currently value him at £18m, so their demands to seem pretty fair.

Finally?

Rob Newman has only been at the London Stadium for a few days now but West Ham’s new head of recruitment could well be the man to finally end David Moyes’ striker nightmare.

The east Londoners searched all summer for a viable forward to provide valuable back-up to the injury-prone Michail Antonio.

Speaking to reporters about his business in the window, the Scotsman revealed (via football.london):

“We would have liked to have brought in someone who could directly replace Mich during the window. [Someone] Who could possibly help him out but we just could not find anyone.”

Onuachu may not have played outside of his home country, Denmark or Belgium but his prolific goalscoring record certainly makes for interesting reading, so he could well be worth a punt this January.

As per Transfermarkt, the 6 foot 7 giant has scored 56 goals in 81 appearances for Genk, which includes 11 in 12 appearances this campaign alone, meaning he’s bagged once every 83 minutes across all competitions.

The Irons will see his talismanic and imposing attributes first-hand very soon as they face the Belgian outfit in the Europa League group stages, where he has already found the net once.

Given his impressive record and physical stature, it’s no surprise that Onuachu has been dubbed “impossible to beat” by former FC Midtjylland teammate Alexander Scholz.

Whilst Ex-Wimbledon striker John Fashanu has previously lauded him as a “goal king.”

Newman must look to get a move for the Genk talisman over the line this January as he’ll instantly bolster Moyes’ playing squad in a key area of weakness.
