Diaz urges team-mate to sign new deal
WHAT HAPPENED?
Salah has admitted this is his "last year" at Liverpool, with his current contract expiring next summer. The Egypt international has scored three goals and registered three assists in three games, and Diaz believes his exit would be hugely detrimental to Arne Slot's side.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
It remains to be seen where Salah will end up if he does leave, but he would become the most attractive free agent on the market. Diaz, though, is hopeful he will have a change of heart and put pen to paper on a new deal.
WHAT DIAZ SAID
Diaz was asked about Salah's potential exit and told Telemundo: "It would be hard for us. It would be hard for Liverpool. It's going to hurt us a lot. He still has a year to think about it, it's not easy. He always gives his very best. He has done it from the start. It would be very hard to lose a key player like him. It's his decision and we respect that, but I hope he doesn't leave."

Liverpool play Nottingham Forest after the international break. They will then open their Champions League campaign three days later, in a re-run of two iconic finals from 2005 and 2007, when the Reds take on AC Milan.
Chelsea have shown plenty of resilience following their recent 5-0 drubbing against Arsenal, securing a comeback draw against Aston Villa before defeating rivals Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 to bolster their European credentials.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side now occupy eighth spot in the Premier League table, just three points behind Manchester United with three matches to go.
The fact they are still in contention for a European berth considering they are going through a major injury crisis is impressive and there is no doubt that, with a fully functional team, Chelsea would be sitting a lot higher in the table.
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino
There could be a high turnaround of players this summer as the Argentinian manager looks to move a few players on in order to comply with financial fair play regulations, which could see several players being sold.
A few areas of his team might need to be strengthened, however, and it appears Pochettino is targeting a player who is currently playing in the Premier League…
Chelsea transfer news
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, it looks as though Chelsea have an eye on Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo ahead of the summer transfer window.
“Understand Chelsea as well as Newcastle are among clubs informed on conditions of the deal to sign Tosin Adarabioyo as free agent,” said Romano on X.
“Several clubs are asking for conditions of potential free signing, but no formal proposal made. Tosin will take his time to decide his future.”
The towering defender could be a decent acquisition for the Blues, especially considering he will cost them nothing in the way of a transfer fee, with just a matter of months left on his existing deal.
The Stamford Bridge side will lose Thiago Silva at the end of the season as the Brazilian bids farewell to the club upon the expiration of his contract, hence the need to strengthen their defensive ranks.
Thiago Silva’s Chelsea statistics
The Brazilian arrived in London in 2020 on a free transfer having spent eight seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, winning everything that was on offer in the French capital, domestically anyway.
The Champions League title had alluded him during his spells in France and with AC Milan in Italy, but nobody expected his triumph in Europe’s premier club competition to come during a spell with Chelsea.
He featured eight times in the competition as Chelsea defeated Manchester City in the final, while making 151 appearances overall for the club at the time of writing. This is made even more impressive considering he will be 40 in September.
Despite their relatively poor season, Silva is currently highest-ranked defender in the squad with regard to his overall Sofascore rating (7.05), while he even ranks first for accurate passes per game (71.5), second for accurate long balls per game (3.3) and first for clearances per game (4.5), proving he can still perform at the highest level during his Indian summer.

There is no doubt he will be missed, but it gives Pochettino the licence to get his massive wages off the bill and bring in someone younger with a chance of selling them on for a profit in a few years.
Step forward Adarabioyo.
Tosin Adarabioyo’s statistics this season for Fulham
Previously on the books at Manchester City, the 26-year-old managed to feature just eight times for the senior side before leaving to join Fulham in 2020 on a permanent deal after loan spells with West Bromwich Albion and Blackburn Rovers.
At the time of writing, the Englishman has played 132 games for the Cottagers and scored five times in that spell, emerging as a key player as the club have firmly established themselves in the top flight.
Like Silva, Adarabioyo’s strength lies in passing, as he currently ranks third among his teammates for accurate passes per game in the Premier League (51.3) while also ranking second for accurate long passes per game (3.6), indicating that his distribution is excellent in comparison to the rest of the squad.
The 6 foot 5 titan is also solid in one-on-one situations and in the air. Not only has he won 53% of his ground duels contested per game this season, but the centre-back has won 2.9 aerial duels per match – a success rate of 67% – demonstrating how good he is in the air.
The defender has also showcased his abilities going forward over the previous 365 days. When compared to his positional peers in Europe’s top five leagues, Adarabioyo ranks in the top 7% for touches in the attacking penalty area per 90 (1.55) and for assists per 90 (0.96) while also ranking in the top 16% for non-penalty goals per 90 (0.09), certainly suggesting that he would be a wise investment for Pochettino to pick up, especially on a free transfer.
He isn’t the big name signing that many of the supporters will expect, but this strategy has failed to really pay off in the past as the club have failed to win a trophy since 2021.

Hailed by former manager Tony Mowbray for being “immense” and “magnificent” after scoring his first goal for Blackburn Rovers during his loan spell there a few years ago, his form has hardly wavered since.
Chelsea surely won't be able to continue splashing millions of pounds on players, especially if they fail to secure European football. While the club has plenty of exciting youth players in the squad, some experience is required in order for them to secure a top-four finish once again.
Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo
Luring Adarabioyo to the Blues could allow Pochettino to save some transfer funds for players in other areas, while his experience in the top flight will be a welcome boost to the club.
Their final four games are against West Ham United, Nottingham Forest, Brighton, and Bournemouth. With the confidence gained from defeating Spurs, there is no reason to say why the club cannot secure at least ten points from 12 across this run.
Achieving that will put them in the best possible position to return to Europe next season, and it will give Pochettino a massive boost heading into the summer.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Kane was speaking ahead of England's UEFA Nations League match against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday. Both Jack Grealish and Declan Rice represented the Boys in Green during the early parts of their career before switching their allegiance to the Three Lions. They are both now returning to Dublin for the first time since then and will heed the words of their skipper when they step out onto the pitch.

WHAT KANE SAID
Speaking to the media, Kane said: "We know it will be a hostile atmosphere. Jack Grealish and Declan Rice might get some stick but they made decisions on what they thought would be best for their career."

Both Rice and Grealish will need to be at their best if England are to get their Nations League campaign off to a winning start. Lee Carsley is vying for the Three Lions gig on a permanent basis after being considered for the Ireland job and will be relying on his experienced players to overcome the hostile atmosphere.

When taking into account Eddie Howe's extensive injury list, Newcastle United's failure to make it back-to-back top-four finishes in the Premier League becomes far more understandable. After a lesson in the importance of squad depth, the Magpies have reportedly already got their summer business underway to avoid a repeat in the next campaign.
Newcastle transfer news
Newcastle's hand has been somewhat forced ahead of the transfer window by ACL injuries to Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles, which sums up their battle with absentees throughout the season. The defensive duo will now miss part of the next campaign, leaving Howe with just Fabian Schar to call upon when it comes to recognised and consistent central defenders.

In need of reinforcements, the likes of Lloyd Kelly have been linked in what would be a free deal this summer. The Bournemouth defender, who can play at centre-back and full-back, ticks a number of boxes, be it Premier League experience, versatility, or age at just 25 years old. After an excellent campaign at Bournemouth to boot, Kelly is more than ready to step into a side vying for European football.
He won't be the only free option either, as per reports. According to Alan Nixon on his Patreon, Newcastle are set to sign Tosin Adarabioyo this summer following the expiry of the defender's Fulham contract at the end of the season.
The Magpies look to have won the race ahead of the likes of West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur to land the in-demand defender and begin to finally put an end to Howe's defensive depth issues.
It is also a deal that won't spark any FFP concerns, Adarabioyo could quickly become a wise piece of business by those at St James' Park looking to see Newcastle return to Europe's elite as soon as possible again.
"Special" Adarabioyo would replace Lascelles
It's worth noting that before his injury, Lascelles was a name linked with a move away from St James' Park, which likely leaves his future in doubt even when he does return. With his contract set to expire in the summer of 2025, Newcastle would be wise to welcome Adarabioyo as a ready-made replacement in the coming months.

Fulham boss Marco Silva is well aware of the quality that he is about to lose, having previously praised Adarabioyo so highly. Silva said (via Irish News): "He is a key player for us. He is one of the leaders in our dressing room and we need these guys to step in in the right moments and he did it.
“We missed him a lot, we missed him because he didn’t play the first three months of the season. Tosin is a special player for us, I can’t hide that situation. Gallagher in transfer limbo for much of summer
Finally leaves Chelsea for Atletico Madrid
Explains why he already "feels at home" there
WHAT HAPPENED?
The 24-year-old finally swapped Chelsea for Atletico late last month in what was a topsy-turvy transfer saga. Upon his arrival, more than 30,000 fans turned out at their Metropolitano Stadium to greet the new recruit. After just two appearances at the Spanish side, he admits he is settling in nicely in his new surroundings.

WHAT CONOR GALLAGHER SAID
He said, via The Mirror: “It was amazing, really good experience. First time meeting Atletico Madrid fans and it was a really warm welcome. They made me feel at home right away and it was really nice for me and all the other signings. We really enjoyed it. it is not a thing they do in England, is it? It was a bit of a surprise to me and made me feel really excited. I could tell straight away how passionate the fans are even just from yet so it built my excitement up even more to start playing the games. I learned a couple of sentences in the car on the way to the stadium. I worked out what I was gonna say. I was pretty nervous but it managed to come out okay so I was happy about that.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Gallagher was involved in one of the biggest 'will he, won't he?' transfer dramas of the summer. At one moment, the former Crystal Palace loanee was leaving Chelsea, and then the transfer seemed on the verge of collapsing. After being exiled by Blues head coach Enzo Maresca, with the England international made to train away from the first-team squad, Gallagher finally got the move he desired. Now, he is starting a new chapter in his footballing career – with a great opportunity at his feet.

Before Gallagher returns to Madrid to play for Atletico, the midfielder could feature for England in their Nations League matches against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday and Finland on Tuesday.
It might be an old cliché, but Crystal Palace fans really have endured a campaign of two halves in the Premier League this season.
The arrival of Oliver Glasner has wholly rejuvenated the South Londoners in 2024, and their emphatic 4-0 win over Manchester United last Monday is the perfect game to encapsulate that.
There were several standout performers during those 90 minutes, but perhaps one stood above everyone else on the pitch.
This star has become one of the most exciting players in the country, and his wages have come to reflect that.
Michael Olise's Crystal Palace career
Yes, the man in question is none other than France U21 star Michael Olise, who was unplayable against the Red Devils and has arguably been one of the Eagles' best players for a couple of years now.
Crystal Palace star Michael Olise.
The South Londoners paid just £8m to sign him from Reading in the summer of 2021 following an impressive campaign with the Championship side in which he scored seven goals and provided 12 assists in 46 appearances.
In his first campaign in red and blue, the Hammersmith-born dynamo scored four goals and provided four assists in just 31 appearances before notching up 11 assists and two goals in 40 games the following season.

It's been an odd campaign for the 6-foot winger this year as injuries have seen him play just 18 games for Palace, yet in those 18 appearances, he has scored ten goals and provided five assists, a seriously impressive return.
With a clear uptick in his output season after season at Selhurst Park, it wasn't surprising that the club offered him a new contract with a significantly improved wage last summer.
The finances of Michael Olise's deal
When Olise first joined the Eagles in 2021, he agreed to a relatively modest wage of £45k-per-week, which meant that 14 players at the club were earning more than him at the time.
The "outstanding" attacker, as described by talent scout Jacek Kulig, remained on this deal until August last year, when, in the aftermath of Chelsea's failed attempt to sign him, he agreed to a bumper new deal of £100k-per-week, which represented a cool 112% increase on his weekly earnings.

This new deal meant that the former Reading ace was now the club's joint top earner, alongside Eberechi Eze and Dean Henderson.
The young world-beater's new deal is set to run until June 2027, but with interest from the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and even Newcastle United, the Eagles may struggle to keep a hold of their talented winger for another season.
That said, whatever happens in the summer, Palace played an absolute blinder with Olise, and if Glasner can convince him to stay for another year, they could be one of the most entertaining teams to watch in the country next season.

Hearing taking place in London
Champions could be relegated from Premier League
WHAT HAPPENED?
City's trial began on Monday, as they stand accused of 115 examples of financial rule-breaking by the Premier League. And the location of the hearing – labelled the 'trial of the century' – has been revealed: the £5,000-per-day International Dispute Resolution Centre in London.

The venue is in St Paul's, and the Mail report that the cost of renting it for such a dispute could reach £250,000 – provided it lasts the expected 10 weeks. The Premier League and City will hope for a swift resolution. On the pitch, Guardiola's side play Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday.
With the transfer window fast approaching, Newcastle United are reportedly weighing up a second bid for a new goalkeeper after their first offer was rejected.
Newcastle transfer news
The Magpies aren't messing around ahead of the summer transfer window. Deals for Tosin Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly are reportedly on the cards upon the expiry of their respective contracts at Fulham and Bournemouth, whilst they've also set their sights on Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jarrod Bowen, according to reports.
Jarrod Bowen scores for West Ham.
With all four targets from in and around the Premier League, Newcastle could make some statement by welcoming the quartet of players this summer. Bowen would be a particularly impressive coup, given the last two seasons that he's enjoyed as the main man at West Ham United. It would also represent the position that Newcastle now find themselves in if they manage to win the race for such players.

They're not just looking in the Premier League, however, with their search for a new goalkeeper taking them outside of England and towards Spain. Initial reports suggested that Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale could arrive, before he himself shut down those rumours.
Now, according to Spanish journalist Nacho Sanchis, Newcastle are weighing up a €35m (£30m) offer to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili after their first offer of €25m (£21m) was rejected by Valencia. With just £9m standing between Newcastle's first bid and Valencia's reported valuation, the Magpies could up their offer to secure Mamardashvili's signature and land a goalkeeper at an early stage of the transfer window.
Still just 23 years old, the shot-stopper could step in and replace not only Martin Dubravka next season, but also Nick Pope now that the former Burnley man is 32 years old and coming off a lengthy injury from the current campaign.
"Fantastic" Mamardashvili should replace Pope
It would represent quite the long-term plan if Newcastle managed to secure Mamardasvili to already seal their replacement for Pope, even if that does hand Eddie Howe a selection headache for the next couple of campaigns. The Valencia man has impressed many in Spain, including Football Talent Scout's Jacek Kulig, who described his season as "fantastic" on X.
Newcastle's next step if they meet Valencia's price tag will be to seal personal terms with Mamardashvili, who earns a reported £25k-a-week in La Liga, which the Magpies should have no trouble in paying.
All signs are pointing towards another summer deal for those at St James' Park, who could have Adarabioyo, Kelly and Mamardashvili sealed, signed and delivered before pre-season even gets underway. After missing out on a top four place this season, Newcastle are clearly wasting no time in finding improvements ahead of the next campaign.
Santi Gimenez's thigh injury isn't the biggest challenge he's had to overcome and he'll use previous experience to overcome.

Santiago Gimenez’s time on the pitch for 2024 is sadly over.
The Mexico forward suffered a thigh injury in Feyenoord’s match with NAC Breda on Sunday, and the club announced this week he will miss three months because of the injury.
It’s bad news for the Dutch club, which relied on Gimenez up top in its opening seven matches. It’s bad news for Mexico, which has high hopes for the 23-year-old and believes he can be the country's next star. And it’s bad news for Gimenez, who now must work to get back on the field and find the same rhythm he’s shown since moving to the Netherlands.
The good news? It’s nothing Gimenez hasn’t overcome before.
Getty Images Sport
A soccer career that almost didn't happen…
As a 17-year-old in the Cruz Azul academy, Gimenez suffered a health issue that he thought would force him to find a new career, giving up the sport he loves. Being a soccer player was the only thing Gimenez had ever dreamed of. The sport was a part of his family's DNA.
His father, Argentina native Christian “Chaco” Giménez, played as a midfielder for Boca Juniors before moving to Mexico and suiting up for many seasons with Pachuca and Cruz Azul. His form earned several Mexico national team caps after becoming a naturalized citizen.
So news of a complicated thrombosis in his shoulder that could’ve required a lifelong dependence on anticoagulants was tough for Santi to swallow.
“I remember this day the doctor told me, ‘You won’t be able to play football anymore.’ My dad and I went to a room, obviously both of us crying, I asked him ‘Why did this happen to me?’” Santi Gimenez told CalienteTV this year. “I felt I was a good kid, I helped people. I asked, ‘Why is this happening to me if I’m not a bad person?’ My dad said, ‘I don’t know. I honestly don’t have the answer, but there’s someone who has it. That’s God.’”
After three operations and six months away from the soccer field, Gimenez was cleared to return. He quickly began building toward his 2017 professional debut, becoming a regular first-teamer with Cruz Azul in the 2019 Apertura. After making an impression in Liga MX, where he scored 20 goals in 88 appearances, he would earn a move abroad to Feyenoord three years later.

Look ahead to recovery
Faith is now something Gimenez references often. In response to this week’s injury news, he wrote on social media, “I’m sure God has a plan and I’ll come back stronger." He also posted a Bible verse that starts, “Do not be afraid for I am with you.”
It’s clear Gimenez begins his recovery in a positive mindset, ready to lean on his faith, his family, and his formative years as a soccer player in returning to the field in the Netherlands. Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game, but Gimenez does seem uniquely suited to handle this setback.
How does Mexico move forward?
Ironically, Gimenez might be more equipped to handle his time away from the pitch than Mexico are.
The time away means he won’t suit up for the Mexico national team again until March of 2024. That potentially will be when El Tri play in the Concacaf Nations League Final Four, though they must qualify with a two-legged quarterfinal series in November (matchup to be determined). It is a missed opportunity for Mexico to evaluate whether or not Gimenez is their long-term solution at striker. With less than two years remaining till the 2026 World Cup, every international window in crucial in determining who will ultimately be on Javier Aguirre's squad.
The young forward’s national team performances have been put under the microscope, and understandably so. In a country accustomed to having great finishers, Mexico has suffered through a lack of forward options in the last several years.
Considering his goal output for Feyenoord, where he has 40 goals in 67 appearances, Gimenez looked to be the great remedy to the scoring problem. Yet, he’s only made Mexico fans more frustrated during his 32 appearances with the team. While supporters remain intrigued by Gimenez's potential, they are starting to grow impatient. Gimenez has just four goals in his three years with the national team. Despite multiple managers having called Gimenez into the squad, none have been able to get the best out of him.
There are plenty of factors at play. The tactics that Mexico and Feyenoord employ are different. He is the focal point with his Eredivisie team whereas he has to find a fit while with Plus, CONCACAF defenders zero in on him in a way that he doesn't experience back in the Netherlands.

How Mexico and Gimenez move forward…
Yet, Mexico still doesn't have another player who offers the vast potential that Gimenez does. So Mexico fans are choosing optimism with his latest setback, opting to believe time away from the day-to-day grind of soccer leads to a Santi who is not only fully fit, but one who is more psychologically ready to break through the issues he currently has with .
This year is over for Santi Gimenez, but that doesn’t mean 2025, and particularly, the summer of 2026 can’t be bright.
Nottingham Forest have a huge summer ahead of them to avoid any further breach of the Premier League’s PSR rules whilst improving their squad to maintain their top-flight status.
Nuno Espírito Santo’s side endured a tricky second half of the 2023/24 campaign, especially considering a four-point deduction which plunged them into fresh relegation woes.
The Reds secured rules survival on the final day following a 2-1 win against already relegated Burnley at Turf Moor, with Chris Wood scoring a double against his former side.
With the summer transfer window rapidly approaching, the club will undoubtedly need to bolster their ranks if they are to build on the end of the season which saw Nuno’s side win two of their last three matches.
However, given their financial troubles, they may have to sell multiple players to cut the wage bill and give themselves a huge chance of avoiding a second PSR punishment in as many seasons.
One player in particular must be sold, especially considering his recent failed loan spell away from the East Midlands.
Joe Worrall’s stats during 2023/24
After the signings of players such as Murillo and Andrew Omobamidele, Joe Worrall only made seven appearances up until January, with off-the-field antics also seeing the defender instructed to train away from the first-team.
Although it's not exactly clear what happened between the defender and former boss Steve Cooper, The Athletic confirmed that Worrall was told to train separately after a confrontation.
He subsequently left the club on a temporary basis, joining Turkish side Besiktas on loan until the end of the 2023/24 campaign, with the Süper Lig side also having an option to make the move permanent this summer.
However, they confirmed that they wouldn’t be taking up the option on the 27-year-old’s loan deal, with Worrall set to return to the City Ground over the summer after just six appearances at the Vodafone Arena.

Given his lack of impact on Trentside and out on loan, the club need to sell the academy graduate this summer, with his market value dropping as a result of his poor performances.
Joe Worrall’s market value in 2024
Just a couple of months after signing a new long-term contract with Forest, the centre-back has seen his form fall off a cliff, with his value rising plummeting in recent months.
According to Football Transfers, Worrall is worth £4.9m – a figure that is £100k less than fellow academy graduate Ryan Yates, who is valued at £5m after his 35 appearance season at the City Ground.
Leeds United defender Joe Worrall in Premier League action for Nottingham Forest.
He also earns a reported £50k-per-week, as per Capology, with the club potentially saving over £2.6m on wages alone – regardless of any transfer fee the club would receive for Worrall this summer.
Worrall unfortunately, hasn't made the grade in the Premier League, with the defender showing glimpses of quality, but unable to sustain his performance levels – with the Tricky Trees believed to now be asking for £4m for the forgotten man, amid interest from the likes of Sheffield United.
That, coupled with his fall-out and Forest's FFP and PSR predicament, Nuno should look to permanently sell the 6 foot 3 defender when the window opens in the summer.
