Fulham Hold Talks To Sign 45-Cap International Star

Fulham have held 'informal contacts' with agents over the potential signing of FC Porto star Mateus Uribe on a free transfer, according to reports.

Who could Fulham sign this summer?

It's been a brilliant first season back in the Premier League for manager Marco Silva and Whites supporters, having arguably surpassed all expectations overall whilst securing a solid mid-table position.

However, in the last two months, a real concern for Silva and co will be Fulham's drop in form – with their last league win coming against Brighton in mid-February.

Since then, barring an FA Cup victory at home to Leeds, Fulham have lost their last four top-flight matches – succumbing to defeats against Brentford, Arsenal, Bournemouth and West Ham.

In that time, they've conceded nine goals and scored just three – potentially highlighting Silva's need for reinforcements next season as some cracks start to show.

In the last few months, Fulham have been linked with moves for Roma defender Chris Smalling, Sheffield United star Sander Berge, Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech and now Uribe.

Sharing news on the latter man, who is set to leave Porto for free as things stand, Portuguese newspaper O Jogo (via Sport Witness) claim Fulham have held 'informal contacts' over the 32-year-old with his representatives.

According to the outlet, it is believed that Uribe has been waiting for the right move as he ponders life beyond the Primeira Liga. His agents have two potential destinations in mind, Fulham and Atletico Madrid, and both clubs are apparently 'top of his preferences'.

The midfielder is seemingly open to a Craven Cottage move, though a renewal with Porto apparently isn't ruled out, either.

What could Uribe bring to Fulham?

The South American ace, who has turned out for his native Colombia 45 times at international level, could bring both solidarity and experience to Silva's midfield.

Enjoying a decorated career, Uribe boasts 15 trophies to his name across spells at Porto, Club America in Mexico and Colombian giants Atlético Nacional.

Uribe could seemingly bring a winner's mentality to west London, and in terms of performances, the player has been important for Porto.

According to WhoScored, the midfield maestro ranks in Porto's top five for best-performing players by average match rating – all while making more interceptions per 90 than any of his teammates.

In terms of successful tackles, only Otavio possesses a higher average than Uribe, with these solid defensive numbers backing why Fulham have taken a keen interest.

VAR Misses Blatant Handball As Arsenal Draw 2-2

Referee David Coote and his VAR team may have made a big mistake in the most recent Arsenal draw after missing a Declan Rice handball.

What's the latest on VAR and Arsenal?

The Gunners were unable to hold on to a two-goal lead for the second time in as many games as they drew 2-2 with West Ham United on Sunday.

Indeed, Mikel Arteta saw his side score twice inside the first ten minutes through Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard only to then concede two in the remainder of the game.

First, Said Benrahma netted a penalty to change the atmosphere at the London Stadium, before Jarrod Bowen netted an equaliser shortly after Bukayo Saka missed a penalty.

However, if we go back to the first goal scored by West Ham, it appears Rice uses his hand to win the ball off Thomas Partey in the build-up to the goal.

Indeed, as seen in this footage, and this image, there is plenty of evidence online to suggest VAR could have denied the goal.

Did Rice use his hand against Arsenal?

Arsenal midfielder Partey was too relaxed when picking up the ball on the edge of his box and Rice did well to close him down. The ball then quickly fell to Lucas Paqueta who was fouled and so referee Coote pointed to the spot.

However, as the image above shows, West Ham certainly wouldn't have won the ball back in such a way without the use of Rices' hand.

VAR did check the incident but deemed that it wasn't enough to overturn the penalty decision – a call that will no doubt have Arsenal fans feeling pretty exasperated.

Journalist Jack Holmes slammed Partey for his "looseness" on the ball during the passage of play but did point out that it "probably" was "a handball" from the West Ham midfielder.

These two dropped points will no doubt be hugely disappointing for the Gunners, as their lead at the top of the table over Manchester City has now diminished to just four points.

When speaking to BBC Sport after the match, Arteta didn't blame the handball but rather slammed his team for being sloppy, saying: "We started incredibly well, dominated the game, dominated the pitch, and scored two beautiful goals. After that, we made a huge mistake; not to continue playing, to score the third and the fourth.

"We started keeping the ball and giving sloppy passes away. We allowed them [West Ham] transition moments, and did not dominate the direct play. And then it's game on. If you concede the goals that we conceded, the first one and the second one, and on top of that you don't score a penalty, in this league you are in big trouble."

Leeds Must Ditch £40k-p/w Disaster

Leeds United have been plunged further into crisis following Sunday's shambolic defeat away to AFC Bournemouth, with recent reports suggesting that manager Javi Gracia – who only took on the job back in February – could already be set for the scrap heap.

For all the scrutiny that will be on the under-fire Spaniard, the players themselves must surely take a fair chunk of responsibility for the club's ongoing woes, with the backline, in particular, having been culpable so far this season.

The Elland Road outfit currently have the worst defensive record in the division having shipped 67 goals in just 34 Premier League games to date, with that grim tally having not been aided by recent, dismal showings against the likes of Liverpool, Crystal Palace and the Cherries.

That latter, 4-1 result proved another rough day for struggling centre-back, Robin Koch, with it perhaps time for the Whites to simply admit that the German defender is just "not good enough" – as per pundit Gabby Agbonlahor – and remove him from the side with immediate effect.

How did Koch perform against Bournemouth?

With recent reports suggesting that the former Freiburg man – who has just over a year left on his current deal – could be set to depart the club this summer, amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur, it may well be a real blessing if the 26-year-old is shown the door ahead of next season.

Previously lambasted as being "horrible to watch" by journalist Beren Cross, the £11.5m addition was again something of a liability against Gary O'Neil's men on Sunday, notably failing adequately to clear his lines in the build-up to the hosts' third goal of the day.

Leeds United's Robin Koch

The manner in which the eight-cap dud clumsily tried to intercept Dango Ouattara's rather tame pullback truly did epitomise his overall woes, with Leeds Live's William Jackson writing that the 6 foot 4 man 'never looked comfortable in the backline and committed a number of needless errors.'

Also described as having looked 'shaky' by the Yorkshire Evening Post's Graham Smyth, Koch's shortcomings were showcased by the fact that he was dribbled past on three occasions and lost possession nine times on the day, having also made just a solitary tackle.

Unsurprisingly, the £40k-per-week brute recorded a dismal match rating of just 5.7, as per Sofascore, with only teammate Illan Meslier (4.5) having recorded a worse rating among any player for either side at the Vitality Stadium.

With the Yorkshire side – who also shipped a staggering 79 goals in the top flight last season – in desperate need of results over the final four games of the season, it should well be time that Koch is ruthlessly ditched from the starting lineup, having endured yet another horror show on the south coast.

Mikel Arteta Has Issue With £40k-p/w Arsenal Man

Journalist Charles Watts has claimed that "something's going on" between Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe and manager Mikel Arteta.

What's the latest on Arsenal and Emile Smith Rowe?

In their latest Premier League outing, the Gunners were without key midfielder Granit Xhaka who pulled out shortly before the game with an illness.

In his place, Fabio Vieira came in as Arsenal dropped vital points in a 3-3 draw at Southampton. All the while, even when desperately chasing a winner, Smith Rowe was left on the bench.

This might seem quite odd seeing as the £40k-p/w midfielder netted 11 goals in all competitions as he proved himself vital to Arteta last season, making 37 appearances in all competitions.

However, it seems as though the Spaniard has lost some faith in the Englishman – who has also missed a large chunk of games due to injury.

While talking about the player on his YouTube channel, Watts seemed to suggest that there must be a reason behind the scenes which explains why Smith Rowe isn't playing.

The journalist said: "He could have played Smith Rowe [against Southampton]. Obviously, something's going on with Smith Rowe at the moment.

"Arteta just doesn't want to use him, for whatever reason – we don't know what that is. Clearly [in] training, I don't know, but he's just not doing enough to impress.

"It's frustrating because we know what Smith Rowe can do and I think that number eight role is perfectly suited to him. We saw it last season at times.”

Will Arsenal sell Smith Rowe?

When you look at WhoScored, you can see that Smith Rowe has failed to impress this term with an average rating of just 6.22 in the league.

However, he'd played only 116 minutes, so it's not as though he's had a fair chance to prove his value. In his place, just as it was against Southampton, Vieira has been handed more game time but his average rating of 6.32 hardly suggests he's a massive upgrade.

Arsenal's Fabio Vieira reacts vs Southampton

With that being the case, it certainly is easy to jump to the conclusion that Arteta must not be happy with what Smith Rowe is doing behind the scenes, perhaps in training, as Watts suggests.

What's more, seeing as the Gunners are currently being linked with Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount (via Goal), the Spanish manager may already be looking for alternative options to add to his midfield in the summer.

None of this seems to bode too well for the 22-year-old Arsenal man.

Man Utd: 11-Pass Flop Let Ten Hag Down Vs Sevilla

Manchester United's European ambitions ended in heartbreak last night as they capitulated against Europa League masters Sevilla in their quarter-final second leg, losing 3-0 to crash out 5-2 on aggregate.

It was a woeful performance by the Red Devils, although it was always going to be a tough ask when they were missing Lisandro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes, while Marcus Rashford was only given the second half to try and make things happen.

It only took eight minutes for the home side to score, as Harry Maguire was reckless in possession following a poor back pass by David De Gea and Youssef En-Nesyri pounced upon the loose ball and scored the opener.

Two more goals in the second half condemned United to defeat and Maguire couldn’t quite recover from his mistake, losing possession nine times throughout and making only one tackle in the game and with a Sofascore rating of 6.3/10, he was the second-worst player on the pitch.

Despite his performance, it was Marcel Sabitzer who really struggled to impose himself in the tie, with Erik ten Hag deploying him in an attacking midfield slot in place of Fernandes, yet he was almost non-existent.

How did Marcel Sabitzer perform for Manchester United vs Sevilla?

The Dutchman would have expected big things from the on-loan midfielder, especially with his two-goal salvo in the first leg, yet he couldn’t get out of first gear and struggled throughout his 68 minutes on the pitch.

With a rating of 6.1/10, he ranked as the worst United outfield player and judging by his performance and the statistics to go with it, it’s easy to see why.

The Austrian completed just 11 passes last night and from a position where he was expected to make things happen, this is absolutely woeful. He managed only 26 touches during the match also while failing to register a single shot or dribble attempt as his attacking output was extremely limited.

Defensively, Sabitzer committed four fouls, lost possession ten times, was dribbled past once and won just four duels, proving that even when tasked with helping out when United were on the back foot, he failed to provide any sort of meaningful support.

Marcel Sabitzer for Man United

The team as a whole were majorly disappointing, yet the 29-year-old had the chance to showcase his abilities to Ten Hag from an attacking position but failed to live up to expectations and this arguably cost the Old Trafford side a place in the semi-finals.

After that display, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him named on the bench for the tie against Brighton in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.

Leeds’ £30k-p/w Ace Slammed For Performance Vs Bournemouth

Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier was slammed by members of the media for his performance against Bournemouth in the Premier League this afternoon.

What was the Bournemouth v Leeds score?

Leeds suffered a real blow in their bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League today, falling to a 4-1 defeat away against Bournemouth, which leaves them just one point above the relegation zone, having played one more game than Everton and Leicester.

The Cherries raced into a 2-0 lead inside 24 minutes, with Jefferson Lerma scoring a quick-fire double, and Meslier was accountable for the Colombian's second, after flapping at a corner.

Patrick Bamford's goal just after the half-an-hour mark offered the Whites a route back into the game, however second-half goals from Dominic Solanke and Antoine Semenyo secured three points for the hosts.

Taking to Twitter during the first half, Phil Hay slammed the Leeds goalkeeper for his "awful" error in the build-up to Lerma's second, with journalist Sam Street adding:

"Normal service resumed from Meslier after a rare solid display for Leeds in midweek."

Should Meslier be dropped against Manchester City?

It is not the first time this season the Frenchman has been criticised this season, with Jamie Carragher claiming he has "never been convinced" by the Leeds shot-stopper as he has "no presence" between the sticks.

Although he cannot be held solely accountable for the Whites' very poor defensive record, it is alarming that the £30k-per-week keeper is now ten Premier League games without a clean sheet after today's result, and his performance was very concerning.

Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

The 23-year-old received a Sofascore match rating of just 4.5 – the lowest of any player on the pitch – having made two errors leading to goals, leaving Javi Gracia with a big decision to make before the trip to the Etihad Stadium.

It would be a very bold move for the manager to drop Meslier heading into such a difficult match, particularly considering backup option Joel Robles is yet to feature for Leeds in the Premier League season.

If he does stick by his first-choice keeper, Gracia will need a much-improved performance, after his involvement in the "complete and utter disaster" down at Bournemouth today.

Spurs Have Made Contact With Julian Nagelsmann

Journalist Alasdair Gold has given some insight into Tottenham Hotspur's search for a new manager and has suggested that contact has been established with out-of-work candidates and that Spurs are 'past the research stage'.

What's the latest manager news involving Tottenham Hotspur?

As per 90min, former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann and Spanish coach Luis Enrique have held talks with Tottenham over the managerial vacancy in north London and asked questions about how the club is run.

The report also states that out-of-work pair Graham Potter and Brendan Rodgers are under consideration by Spurs, while several other candidates in employment have also been linked, including Feyenoord's Arne Slot, Xabi Alonso, Vincent Kompany, Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick.

One outlet in France has also claimed that Lille boss Paulo Fonseca is also in the frame to take over; however, West Ham United and Crystal Palace are also keen to hire the 50-year-old in the summer.

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi and Celtic's Ange Postecoglou have also been touted for the role, though it is still unclear who will be the next Tottenham head coach.

Speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast, Gold has indicated that contact has been initiated with out-of-work candidates:

"What we can say is they seem to be now past the research stage where they're looking into the candidates, compiling their shortlist and now we're at the stage where those managers in jobs, they're going to start discussions with. It appears that they have already had some discussions with those out of work. Obviously, contact has been made with Julian Nagelsmann."

What next for Tottenham Hotspur?

In the here and now, Ryan Mason is currently in charge at Spurs and will try his best to fire his side up for their remaining matches, though being able to finish in the top four looks like a tough ask at the moment.

Tottenham still have four Premier League fixtures left to complete and face some tricky opponents, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Brentford and Leeds United still to come.

Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Ryan Mason talks to Pedro Porro

Spurs sit in seventh place in the Premier League and face the possibility of seeing their hopes of securing any continental football fading into the distance unless they can try and string a run of results together, as Aston Villa and Brentford linger not far behind them.

Mason will need to try and get a tune out of his players before a likely busy summer gets underway at Hotspur Way following a disappointing 2022/23.

Although Champions League football may be out of the window, it will be interesting to see how hard Spurs fight for the remaining two European competitions available to them to qualify for.

Arsenal: Gunners Make Offer To Sign "Cheeky" Forward

Arsenal have made a "proposal" to Barcelona starlet Ilias Akhomach who looks set to leave as a free agent in June, according to reports out of Spain.

What's the latest Arsenal transfer news?

The Premier League title-chasers could still make history, having waited nearly 20 years for another league crown, but as things stand, Man City are firmly in the driving seat.

Boasting a game in hand and one-point advantage, the race is in Pep Guardiola's hands, and Arsenal have to be perfect to stand any chance of pipping them to top spot.

Mikel Arteta's side have it all to do, but even if they miss out, you can make the strong argument that this has been a simply brilliant season with Champions League football guaranteed.

In the background, sporting director Edu will be working on summer transfer targets ahead of next campaign, with midfield reinforcement thought to be a top priority.

West Ham star Declan Rice, alongside Brighton's Moises Caicedo, have been heavily linked with a move to north London – meanwhile Arteta is also said to want additions further forward.

According to a report by Sport, Barca prodigy and exciting young attacker Akhomach is a player of real interest, with the 19-year-old apparently receiving a "proposal" to join Arsenal.

There isn't any further detail on this alleged offer, but he could well be on the move this summer, as his renewal is proving complicated.

Arsenal have also been boosted by Leeds' collapsed move for Akhomach, but they aren't the only elite side who have made an approach.

Both Sevilla and AC Milan are also in the running, making proposals of their own, with this update hinting the teenager's future could be far away from Catelonia.

What could Akhomach bring to Arsenal?

Despite not exactly having the season of his life over 2022/2023, scoring just one goal in 23 league appearances for Barca's youth side, Akhomach still arguably possesses plenty of promise.

Xavi has even handed the Spaniard his first team debut already, in both La Liga and the Copa del Rey, with former Barcelona B manager Francisco Javier García Pimienta tipping Akhomach to be a big success back in 2020.

Pimienta explained (via Sport):

“He’s a cheeky, brave player with a lot of quality, but he’s only 16. We have very young players and we can’t load them with too much responsibility.

“What’s clear is that the academy is bringing through a lot of players and he’s one that we will have in mind this season, for sure.”

Perhaps Akhomach can re-discover his best form in England and working under a manager like Arteta, especially since Barca youth boss Rafa Marquez apparently views the player as expendable.

Man United Backed To Beat Rivals To Signing

Manchester United could pip Liverpool to the signing of Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister this summer, according to an update from transfer expert Dean Jones.

Is Mac Allister leaving this summer

The 24-year-old's future is a big talking point at the moment, with his performances for the Seagulls leading to plenty of interest in him. He is enjoying a brilliant season currently, scoring nine goals in the Premier League and also tasting World Cup glory with Argentina.

On Thursday night, United witnessed the wrath of Mac Allister close up, as his last-gasp penalty proved to be the difference between the two sides at the Amex Stadium. The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the midfielder, as they look at potential additions in the middle of the park this summer.

Liverpool are also right in the mix, however, and at this stage, it looks as though the Argentine could well be plying his trade at either Old Trafford or Anfield next season.

Brighton & Hove Albion'sAlexisMacAllistercelebrates

Could Mac Allister join Man United

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones suggested that United could be a stronger option for Mac Allister than their rivals this summer, with a move to one of the two clubs looking likely:

"If you look at United, they've already won a cup, they are in a cup final, they're going to be in the Champions League by the looks of it. At the moment, they are the team with a bit more to offer him. Also, they're in the middle of a rebuild which he can quickly become a part of."

Mac Allister could be such an effective signing by United at the end of the season, with the Brighton hero someone who looks like a complete midfielder currently. He provides box-to-box energy, scoring goals and defending well – he averages 2.1 tackles per game in the league this season – and he could give United's midfield an injection of life, with both Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in their 30s, not to mention Bruno Fernandes turning 29 later this year.

Sergio Aguero has lauded his compatriot for being a "very intelligent" player, while journalists hailed him as "absolutely outstanding" during the World Cup. The fact that United look set to promise Mac Allister Champions League football next season gives them a big advantage over Liverpool, so it just depends on whether he has his heart set on one particular club. If not, a switch to Old Trafford could make more sense for him.
