Manchester United: Red Devils Legends Sparks De Gea Debate

To say that David de Gea's Manchester United career ended with a period of poor form would be an understatement. The Spaniard seemed to make mistake after mistake, culminating in the Red Devils' FA Cup final defeat against local rivals Manchester City.

Truth be told, United cut ties at the right time to bring in a far more modern shot-stopper in the form of Andre Onana. The former Inter Milan goalkeeper is everything that De Gea is not, with his ability to play from the back particularly impressive – as you can this in this footage.

De Gea, meanwhile, often struggled with his distribution, limiting Erik ten Hag's system from the back.

Despite his clear drop-off, however, Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke still believes that the Spain international is better than Onana in what is a controversial take, to say the least.

Dwight Yorke delivers David de Gea verdict

Speaking to OLBG, via Goal, Yorke went as far as saying that fans will soon be asking for De Gea back. He said: “I've said before that Man United need to be careful what they wish for with losing David de Gea. For all the good De Gea has done for Man United, the way his career ended was really bad. I hope this doesn't come back to haunt Man United now they've bought Andre Onana.

"Be careful what you wish for. De Gea is the Golden Glove winner, a high-profile player who has made mistakes, like the rest of us. De Gea winning the Golden Glove is like winning the Golden Boot and being the top scorer at the club but still getting replaced by the football club. That does not resonate well with me.

“In my opinion, Onana is not as good as De Gea and people need to watch him very carefully. I've seen Onana before, the Premier League is a different kettle of fish with how fast the game is and how often you are pressured.

"Onana tries to be an outfield player rather than a goalkeeper sometimes. I will be watching this guy very closely, and the people who have criticised De Gea and wanted him to leave will probably be the ones who will be calling him to come back. I'm hoping that doesn't happen for Man United’s sake.”

Is Andre Onana better than David de Gea?

It's certainly an interesting take from Yorke, considering how well Onana performed for Inter Milan last season as the Serie A club suffered Champions League final heartbreak at the hands of Manchester City.

Compared to De Gea last season, as per FBref, Onana had a better save percentage, conceded less goals per 90, completed more passes per 90, and stopped more crosses.

So, if De Gea is currently a better goalkeeper than Onana, it is not the stats that Yorke has used to form his opinion, it seems.

We're sure the former Inter man will prove the Manchester United legend wrong throughout the season, whether he admits it, or not.

Indeed, the stats certainly show that United are not getting a worse keeper than De Gea. But rather, they are quite likely instead getting a major upgrade.

West Ham: "World-Class" Player Wants To Join Moyes

West Ham United could go back in for Southampton star James Ward-Prowse and he is "pretty keen" on that being the case, according to reports.

Who will West Ham sign?

David Moyes and technical director Tim Steidten have been at the centre of reports claiming there is a current rift behind the scenes at West Ham, coming as they remain the only club not to make a single summer signing.

We are into the final month of this transfer window, giving West Ham precious little time to strengthen in key areas all over the pitch, but the Hammers head coach has previously expressed optimism.

Speaking at the end of last month, Moyes revealed that "several offers" have been made by the club in their attempts to strengthen after the £105 million sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal.

“Because of the shortness of the summer and being in Australia. it’s meant the time has been limited, but I’m sure we’ll get down to work and do what we have to do,” Moyes told Sky Sports.

“The club have made several offers for players, we’re out on the market, we’re quite active, and hopefully some of them will come off in the future.”

Ward-Prowse, who was subject to rejected bids from West Ham as they haggled over price with Southampton, is reportedly pretty keen to make the move.

A deal for the Englishman, according to journalist Dean Jones, could still be alive.

"The James Ward-Prowse situation is still alive," said Jones to GiveMeSport.

"I know that goes against the current wave of information, but the fact they have made offers shows their intent and while Saints might keep knocking them back at the minute, the update I have just had suggests this is a deal that will eventually get done if they persist as the player is pretty keen on that being the case.

"I don’t know how quickly it’ll happen because of the approach West Ham have taken on this and, of course, they are very wary about the price point here and not overpaying.

"At the moment, they are about £10million away from valuation. To be honest, maybe he even starts the season at Saints. But he won’t be there much longer and, at the moment, he’s the Moyes target that looks likely, even if Steidten has been trying to calm the excitement around that opportunity."

Southampton's James Ward-Prowse

How good is James Ward-Prowse?

The midfielder was, undoubtedly, Southampton's star player last season – standing out as their best-performing player by average match rating according to WhoScored.

Former Saints boss Nathan Jones, speaking to the media last term, also heaped praise on Ward-Prowse as a "world-class" player.

“He’s been outstanding since I came in, his attitude," said the Welshman.

“My first conversation with him was 10 minutes after he didn’t get picked for the England squad. Since that moment, he’s been absolutely world-class for me. The way he reacted and the performances you’re seeing now, it’s really motivated and driven.

“He’s vital, I like to get to know my captains and have a real relationship with them, a real personal relationship so they understand decisions we make."

Tottenham Eye Prime Hazard 2.0 In "Generational" £35m Maestro

As far as Tottenham Hotspur supporters are concerned, Eden Hazard will forever be remembered as the man who put the final nail in the coffin of their Premier League title hopes back in 2016, with the Belgian wizard curling home from range in the infamous 'Battle of Stamford Bridge'.

With those of a Leicester City persuasion watching on knowing that a draw between the Lilywhites and rivals Chelsea would hand them the title, that late stunner from the diminutive gem ensured that the league crown would be heading the way of the Foxes, rather than to Mauricio Pochettino's youthful side.

While perhaps not easy for Spurs fans to recognise at the time amid the disappointment of that thrilling 2-2 draw, Hazard's equaliser was truly a moment of individual magic, with the former Lille ace having yet again stolen the headlines for his undoubted genius.

For all the 32-year-old's recent woes – having endured an injury-plagued stint at Real Madrid over the last four years – in his prime in English football the mercurial wizard was a true magician, recording over 200 goal involvements in 352 games during his time with the Blues.

Chelsea's Eden Hazard

At one stage the "best player in the league" – according to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher – a figure with Hazard's talent is not one which comes around too often, with few being able to make their mark on the game quite so impressively.

According to recent reports, however, Spurs and Ange Postecoglou could potentially have their eyes set on a possible successor to the 126-cap sensation in the form of Lyon's Rayan Cherki.

What's the latest on Cherki to Tottenham?

According to a report from Football Transfers last week, the north Londoners are seemingly ready to fight it out with Chelsea, ironically, for the signing of the teenage starlet, with the 19-year-old having already held discussions with both clubs regarding a possible summer swoop.

As per the piece, the promising Frenchman – who has been a long-time target of La Liga giants Real Madrid – has been the subject of a €40m (£35m) offer from those at Stamford Bridge, with the race now on to see just who can secure his signature.

How good is Rayan Cherki?

The 5 foot 10 dynamo could follow in Hazard's footsteps in making the move from France to England in the early stages of his career, with the Belgian icon having previously joined the Blues from Lille at the age of 21 back in 2012.

rayan-cherki-lyon-tottenham-hotspur-postecoglou-transfer-gossip-dele

Like the ex-Madrid man, Cherki notably operates in a playmaking berth or on the flanks to devastating effect, having been dubbed a "generational talent" by journalist Andres Onrubia Ramos after recording 30 goals and assists in 104 games for his current side to date.

Described as a "difference-maker" by talent scout Jacek Kulig, the comparison between the Lyon gem and Hazard has been noted by French football expert Jonathan Johnson, who previously wrote:

'He’s a very exciting talent, somebody who looks to have a great career ahead of him. Similarly to Eden Hazard when he first established himself in Ligue 1, he looks very technically skilled, versatile, and he’s probably the best young player to emerge from Lyon’s youth academy for many years, possibly even since Karim Benzema'.

With Hazard having scored six goals and contributed three assists in 17 outings against Spurs throughout his career to date, those at N17 are fully aware of the type of talent he was in his pomp, hence the potential excitement at snapping up his heir apparent in the form of Cherki.

Much like Hazard was Chelsea's main man for a number of years, the teenager could potentially prove a talismanic presence for Postecoglou's side over the years to come.

Chelsea: Transfer insider shares unexpected murmur he’s "hearing"

New Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is on the hunt for yet another striker and transfer insider Dean Jones has offered an update to GIVEMESPORT on one of the names linked, Dusan Vlahovic.

What is the current striker situation at Chelsea?

It seems remarkable that Romelu Lukaku is still a Chelsea player given the constant setbacks as well a loan move back to Inter Milan.

Lukaku may be heading towards the exit door once again with another Italian giant sniffing around him. According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea could bring Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic into the club but only if Juventus get the aforementioned Belgian back in return.

Yet another new face will be prowling the Chelsea technical area and it would seem that Lukaku isn’t the striker that Pochettino wants in his system. Vlahovic meanwhile, after a meteoric rise in the Serie A landscape, could be the man for the job. That being said, he endured a very mediocre season last time out, as did the Bianconeri on the whole, 10 goals and two assists hardly tearing any trees up. He is still just 23-years-old though so he has many years of football ahead of him.

What has Dean Jones got to say about Vlahovic?

"I remember a few weeks ago describing how Chelsea had felt out this situation and had a conference call with Juventus ready for talks with the new sporting director over a potential deal.

"On the back of those discussions nothing was picked up, I thought maybe the ship had sailed on Vlahovic for now. Chelsea felt the situation out, they knew everything they needed to know in terms of signing him, but they didn’t pull the trigger.

"After what we have seen from Chelsea and Jackson in pre-season I don’t really see a reason for them suddenly making a signing like this right now, yet I am hearing that the interest remains and obviously there is the whole Lukaku factor now in the mix.

"Vlahovic would be an unbelievable signing. Do not underestimate what this guy could do in the Premier League. Jackson has had a good pre-season and adds a really nice mix of assets to the attack, but I’m sticking by my opinion that he won’t score more than 15 goals.

Vlahovic has a ceiling much higher than that in my eyes."

Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic.

Where Does Vlahovic Fit in at Stamford Bridge?

As previously mentioned, there have already been a couple of new signings in the attacking third this window. Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson have joined from RB Leipzig and Villarreal respectively surrounded by hype and expectations. The former is an injury worry as the start of the new season looms after he was substituted in a recent friendly.

Vlahovic is a very different forward to Frenchman Nkunku, who has been one of the best players in all of Germany over the last couple of seasons. Whereas the latter is of a smaller stature, Vlahovic is 6 foot 2 inches and is of a muscly build. At the same time, the pair are both known for good movement in and around the box and it remains to be seen whether they will play together or not.

Beyond the central forwards, the list goes on for attackers: Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling to name just a few. If Vlahovic does join the Londoners, Pochettino won’t be short of attacking options that is for sure.

Wessels defies bowlers' day as 20 wickets fall

Whether that Nottinghamshire touch this summer will turn to gold will only become apparent this weekend at NatWest Blast Finals Day, but certainly they returned to Championship action after the mid-season break against Northants at Trent Bridge with their exuberance undimmed.A 50-point cushion over Northants, who lie third, with six matches remaining, promises immediate promotion from Division Two and most likely as champions – not that they would be so unprofessional as to admit it – and the Royal London One-Day Cup is already won. What chance three trophies in the venerable, chimney-potted pavilion come September to mark Peter Moores’ first season in charge?Nottinghamshire’s 213 was obviously a sturdy total on an extravagantly seaming pitch, but it looked gigantic once Northants took guard. Northants might be many neutrals’ favourite T20 side, a team of considerable heft, but the manner in which they capitulated to 141 all out – itself a recovery from 59 for 7 in 20 overs – suggested they do not remotely envisage grinding out a serious promotion challenge throughout September. As for Notts, assuming the pitch retains its character, they can anticipate the best part of two days off before heading to Edgbaston and switching their thoughts back to T20.For the first time this season a toss at Trent Bridge was contested: both counties eager to bat. The ground gleamed white under sunlit pale blue skies, the colour scheme of a coastal cottage, but a mottled brown pitch resembled the after-effects of an especially high tide. Even as Northants made inroads, they just seemed to be marking time before Notts got hold of the ball. Both attacks bowled splendidly.Azharullah bowled with commendable pep and skill for a season’s-best 5 for 63 for Northants and Richard Gleeson surfed some late waves for four wickets, but their efforts in bowling out Notts in two sessions were to no avail when Northants themselves fell in less than one.Notts’ innings was based around two half-centuries: another worthy affair at the top of the order from Steven Mullaney, fifth out for 58 when Rory Kleinveldt cut a ball back to bowl him, and 69 in 80 balls from Riki Wessels which was drawn increasingly from the limited-overs songbook.Mullaney coped with conditions as admirably as anybody, his streakiest moment coming with his ninth boundary which flashed through the slips to bring up his fifty. Wessels, a T20 opener given licence at No. 6 in the Championship, changed tack after Notts lost their sixth wicket, that of Chris Read, and took five boundaries off Kleinveldt’s next over before indulging in several unsuccessful ramp shots against the seaming ball. A last-wicket stand of 32 with Harry Gurney completed Notts’ escape before he skied Gleeson to be last out.If Cheteshwar Pujara, the Indian Test batsman, had returned to county cricket to extend his education in English conditions ahead of India’s tour next summer, the loss of his off-stump as he drove at Azharullah was a degree level question which he flunked by some distance. Samit Patel and Brett Hutton were bowled shouldering arms to Azharullah and the clamour for Alex Hales to be selected for England’s Ashes tour party as a middle-order batsman was briefly silenced when the same bowler dismissed him for 4, on the drive. The call for Hales carries some validity, but even allowing for bursts of brilliance in limited-overs cricket, he will need to add further substance in the Championship to the double century he made against Derbyshire three weeks ago.Northants can’t have been helped by Ben Duckett’s broken finger, nor by the late withdrawal of Max Holden, who had been secured from Middlesex for a second loan period only to be immediately summoned back to London by his director of cricket, Angus Fraser, because of injury concerns surrounding three senior batsmen, all of whom were ultimately passed fit. That entailed an unexpected call-up for David Murphy, a wicket-keeper batsman who has been laid low for much of the season with a back disc problem and who has already announced his intention to retire at the end of the season to take up a law post in London.Murphy and his fellow opener, Rob Newton, fell to catches at the wicket, Jake Ball yorked Alex Wakely, Luke Wood sent Richard Levi’s off stump many a mile and when Rob Keogh, Adam Rossington and Kleinveldt fell within nine balls, Northants were seven down and had still to avoid the follow-on. They did so with Josh Cobb to the fore in an unbeaten 46, but they have quite a task to turn this game on its head.

Sarfraz eager to shift focus back to cricket

The actual cricket looks to have taken a back seat, but Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed is eager to push it back into focus, looking to maintain Pakistan’s T20 ranking by winning games

Umar Farooq in Lahore11-Sep-2017The emerging theme from the series between Pakistan and the World XI is that it’s more than just cricket, with the feeling that this is the first time real, high-profile international cricket returns to Pakistan. The actual cricket looks to have taken a back seat, but Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed is eager to push it back into focus, looking to maintain Pakistan’s T20 ranking by winning games. The players comprising the World XI hail from seven different countries, and landed in Lahore with a view to reviving cricket in Pakistan. It is a series being celebrated around the country as the future of Pakistan as viable host hinges on the success of the series, which has been ratified by the ICC and holds T20 international status.”I think the burden of responsibility has been increased because we are playing at home but we take every series seriously,” Sarfraz said ahead of the first T20. “This might be a series for a great cause to revive cricket but we have to watch out for our T20 ranking as well. Our ranking is quite high (No. 3) and we want to maintain it so the series is equally important. We will try to win every game one-sidedly. But obviously, they are a strong team on paper and we will have to fight to win.”Sarfraz grew up in an era when Pakistan used to host international teams frequently. He played in the 2008 Asia Cup and was part of the Pakistan squad when Zimbabwe toured the country in 2015. He had also captained Quetta Gladiators in the PSL final earlier this year, but this will be the first instance of him captaining Pakistan on home soil in an international game. Apart from Sarfraz, as many as 10 players out of the 16-man squad have never played an international game at home.Amir debuted in 2009 but has never played at home while Babar Azam, Ahmed Shehzad, and Imad Wasim played their first international in 2015 against Zimbabwe. “I am very excited to have cricket back home after a long time and it is a moment of joy,” Sarfraz said. “Since the incident (Sri Lanka team attack in 2009) this is my third event in Pakistan.”As captain it’s my first, so for me, it’s a proud moment, as well as for all those who have been selected to play against World XI. I think nothing is more joyous for them than to be playing cricket in Pakistan and we are hopeful that after this series, cricket will be regularly played in the country. We have a young team building up and we are fully prepared ahead of the game. We played with a blend of young player in West Indies, as we are now, but at the same time, we have the likes of Ahmed Shezhad, with ample experience along with Shoaib Malik, so there isn’t any worry at all. We are actually trying to play young players who will step up to the plate.”

Newcastle: Magpies Could Still Move For Scott McTominay

Newcastle United could still potentially sign Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this summer, according to an update from Sky Sports journalist Melissa Reddy.

How old is Scott McTominay?

The Scot is now 26 years of age but has found playing time at Old Trafford increasingly hard to come by in recent years, as competition for places has gone up a gear.

Last summer saw Casemiro and Christian Eriksen arrive at United and the pair became an immediate key man, limiting McTominay to just ten starts in the Premier League. It doesn't look as though his squad status is going to change any time soon, so if he stays put this summer, he will have to accept that he will again be playing a bit-part role.

Read the latest Newcastle transfer news HERE…

There is the option of the midfielder moving on, however, and Newcastle have been linked with a move for him a number of times this year, seeing him as an individual who could bolster their options in the middle of the park.

The Magpies are not alone in expressing an interest, however, and it looks as though West Ham are pushing hard to sign both he and Harry Maguire in the current transfer window.

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

Will Newcastle sign Scott McTominay?

Taking to Twitter, Reddy provided an update regarding the Hammers' rejected bid for McTominay, adding that a move to Newcastle this summer still isn't out of the question:

"Manchester United have rejected a £30m bid from West Ham for Scott McTominay. Valued closer to £45m. Club more than happy to keep him, but he's also seen as the biggest sale they can make this summer. Newcastle could also still act on their interest depending on other deals."

While McTominay may not necessarily be the most spectacular midfielder around, in terms of producing magic week in, week out, he is someone who could be a strong addition at Newcastle, possessing the box-to-box energy to thrive under Eddie Howe.

He now has 144 appearances to his name in the Premier League, showing what an experienced head he is, but at 26, he still has plenty left in the tank, too. Granted, he may also have to accept that he isn't a guaranteed starter at St James' Park, but regular football is more likely than at United, with the Magpies not having quite the same level of depth as the Red Devils.

McTominay was once described as a "special character" by Jose Mourinho, which says a lot about the quality he has in his locker, and two goals for Scotland in a memorable recent 2-0 win over Spain also highlight the fact that he is far more than just a workhorse in midfield.

It does look as though West Ham are in pole position to sign the international this summer, but if the chance arises for Newcastle to swoop in and get their man, it could be an inspired piece of business that significantly strengthens Howe's squad, as he prepares for this weekend's Premier League opener at home to Aston Villa, and a relentless season across four different competitions.

West Ham Interested In "Outstanding" 21 y/o Whiz

West Ham United fans would’ve thought that losing the talismanic Declan Rice to Arsenal for £105m would be the most damaging outgoing for the club this summer.

However, a new – almost equally devastating – storyline has since emerged, with Manchester City keenly pursuing a deal for attacking midfielder Lucas Paqueta.

Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Brazilian is keen to join the reigning Premier League and European Champions, who had an initial verbal approach of £70m rejected. A fresh offer is expected, with the Italian journalist indicating that players could be included in the deal.

This has led to suggestions that Cole Palmer could be on his way to the London Stadium.

What’s the latest on Cole Palmer to West Ham?

According to the ever-reliable ExWHUEmployee, the 21-year-old is attracting serious interest from the Hammers.

The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg has echoed this view, stating that West Ham are eyeing a loan deal for the youngster.

Read the latest West Ham transfer news HERE…

Pep Guardiola has communicated his impression of the situation, saying:

“We have lot of confidence in Cole. I know he wanted to play last season, and didn't much. The agent, himself, we have to talk.

“If he wants to stay, we're more than pleased. If he wants to leave, we'll find a solution because he's a top player.”

Would Cole Palmer be a good signing for West Ham?

The 6-foot academy gem has been at Manchester City since 2010, rising through various academy sides.

In 61 appearances for the U18 and U21 teams, he has recorded 61 goal involvements – a frightening level of productivity to emphatically demonstrate that he is more than ready for regular senior football.

As a result, he has become partially integrated into the first team, making 39 appearances in the last 3 years, including five goals.

Internationally, the playmaker has also performed admirably – at England’s U21 European Championship winning campaign, Palmer played five matches, scored once, registered three assists, and completed 88% of his passes and 56% of his dribbles, as per Sofascore.

Nevertheless, last season he only notched seven starts in all competitions and a loan at a fellow top-flight side could be the perfect platform to further ignite his limitless potential.

Moreover, his hypnotic dribbling and magical technique could make him the new jewel of West Ham’s crown as he ranks within the best 1% in Europe’s top five leagues among his positional peers for progressive carries, successful take-ons and touches in the attacking penalty area per 90.

The joyous technician, who netted in the Community Shield final against Arsenal, possesses the profile and skill to soften the blow of Paqueta’s possible exit.

The former Lyon maestro has only been at West Ham for one year but has quickly established himself as one of the club’s most talented and influential assets.

Lucas Paqueta

Described as “simply sensational” by CBS Sports' James Benge, the South American ranks within the top 6% in Europe’s top five leagues among his positional peers for progressive passes per 90, and his repertoire of flair and exuberance means he looks destined to compete at the highest level.

Nevertheless, Palmer is also a ridiculous talent, and with a year of consistent game-time, could further flourish into one of the division’s most sought-after forces.

Also hailed as “outstanding” by Paul Dickov, the 21-year-old starlet to West Ham would be an extremely smart piece of business for all parties, given the evidence above.

Na próxima rodada, o CSA visita a Ponte Preta, no Moisés Lucarelli, dia 21 de agosto. O Operário-PR enfrenta o Paraná, no Durival Britto, dia 23 de agosto.

A partida

Thomaz, do Fantasma, driblou o marcador, invadiu a área e bateu rasteiro.
